Disagree. Getting wasted on good beer is a sublime pleasure, reserved only for times when you feel like blowing lots of money.

Actually, the best way is to start on good beer, especially something like a double IPA to just rip your taste buds apart. Enjoy a few good beers, and once you have a little bit of a buzz, move on to something low quality and cheap.

If the idea is to just to get ripped, then I agree -- go cheap. Once you get past the five or six cans, does it really matter what it tastes like.

However, I am at the point in my life where drinking beer is not about trying to get drunk. It is about drinking and enjoying a really good adult beverage. Therefore, I have to totally agree the bolded statement. If I happen to get a good buzz on really good beer, than so much the better.

Right now, I tend to go for quality over quanity when it comes to beer.

But when it comes right down to it, I would rather drink Tanqueray and Tonics.

I tend to agree. Most of my beer drinking anymore, is for the enjoyment of a couple beverages. However, on those occasions where achieving a high level of inebriation is the goal, good beer still does the trick!

I'm obviously old. Mid 30's....I don't really much like to get drunk. I like being drunk--but don't like the next day. But I love beer. Good beer. You couldn't pay me to touch a Miller Lite. Give me an IPA and I'm a happy guy. Had two of them last night, caught a small buzz, went to bed happy.

You never told me you were an IPA guy. Probably my favorite style of beer, period.

Good stuff but try Bombay Sapphire if you havent already. Its my fav!

The cheapest I regularly bothered with was Icehouse and Red Dog. Both pretty crappy I'd bet if I drank them now but still better than many I've heard mentioned here. I'd echo the liquor is quicker sentiment too. Screwdrivers mixed 50/50 with cheap vodka always did the trick.
