I want to know the best place you have found (either at a store or on-line) for buying an external hard drive. I want to be able to back up my pictures and get them off of my computer.

Go to newegg.com and buy one. I've heard the Western Digital Passports are pretty good. You don't need an external power source since it's powered by USB. I don't usually recommend Best Buy but I believe they had these for $75 on sale.

Some of the others have push button auto backup, which would be nice. You may as well back up the whole PC.

Be careful with Western Digital external hard drives:

newegg or tigerdirect. If you really don't want to ever lose your pictures, burn them to a dvd though. If the external drive ever went south everything would be gone obviously.

If you burn to a DVD they are only supposed to have a ten-year life span. Kodak makes some special archival DVD's that are supposed to last longer.

Almost ALWAYS you are going to find a better price online. I can't even remember the last time I bought hardware or software at a store unless it I absolutely couldn't wait for it.
