Chris,
I think the talk of uofi dropping ISU is premature. I guess that I assumed that the Big 10 would keep 8 conference games just like the Big 12 had: 5 division and 3 other division. Who said that they would have 9 conference games?

It would only make sense that the new Big 12 go to nine conference games, as that would provide for a true round robin. Nobody really knows how Big 10 schedules are going to change next year,

I say keep the Hawks. Sure it's a lose lose situation for us as most expect us to win but I like the rivalry. They treat it like it's their super bowl and we treat it like it's our most important pre season game. You can't get much better than that

In his V-Log for the week, he commented that uofi, with more conference games, would look to drop the ISU game.

Iowa could drop the game, but right now there's nothing that says the Big 10 is going to a nine game schedule. It would make more sense for them to have a rotation like the Big 12 had as opposed to a nine game schedule.

I'm all for dropping iowa if it means ThH and the rest of the goon patrol leave our little corner of the internet.

I'm afraid simply dropping the uofi FB game won't elminate them. They even come crawling back to vent when we beat them. There's a psych paper waiting to be written about the character make-up of trolls. Something along the line of "I must be better than you 'cause my team wins!!" Anyway, the only sure way to do away with them is a healthy dose of trollicide. That's cyanide mixed with kaopectate to eliminate the BS.

I'm curious what the Iowa reasons are for dropping it if the Big Ten goes to 9 conference games. Or do they just want to use that to get out of the contract because they want to drop it anyway.

Who says Iowa would drop it if they went to nine games? Chris Williams speculating that Iowa might go to nine games is just that - speculation. It would be easier to keep it eight and just play three teams in the other division.

Speaking as an obvious homer, it would seem like ISU would have a greater incentive to drop the series, as the new schedule is (seemingly) going to make it harder for ISU to get to a bowl game. Go the K-State route, schedule three wins, and and go from there.

That being said, ISU will probably have a hard time finding someone to replace Iowa that would fill the stadium like Iowa and Nebraska do every year, and with Nebraska off the schedule after this year...it's an interesting situation.

We should drop the football rivalry. It does nothing but bring out tavern hawks and uber clones who ruin it for everybody, and what clones85 said, it's a lose-lose for us anyway.

There is also this little gem in the contract between the two schools. Iowa and ISU are both contractually obligated to block any attempt by either conference to add another conference game/s.

Notwithstanding the terms set forth in paragraph 11 above, during this contract, should either school's conference add additional conference football games, that school shall be entitled to request that the parties seek to renegotiate the contract terms for the remaining contract years that are affected by the conference scheduling change. Both schools agree to make every effort to work with their respective conferences to keep this issue from arising.

Plus they are 12 for the time being, I think Chris is speculating that the Big 10 might expand further if Notre Dame sees the light.... I could see it next year....

Personally, I would hate to see this game dropped. I love to hate the Hawks, and if we aren't playing every year, I wonder if that would lead to complete indifference (much like their basketball fans).

I hope we keep it on the schedule.

Dropping Iowa would not give up our largest game attendance wise. The current record at JTS is the 2007 UNI game. It could be played annually without a home and home requirement. We might make more money this way if that is the issue.

Iowa, and their fans, have been wanting to drop this game for over 10 years now.

I say... go ahead and drop it. We need 3 cupcake wins.

Actually, several (if not most) in the Des Moines area media were speculating this, not just Chris.
