Spoiled by Mr. "That's not an excuse, it's a fact"?

Mac regularly blew more smoke than a forest fire. One question followed by a 10-minute non-answer.
At least someone understood the sarcasm behind that statement.

Listened three times.

Go take a lap around what?
Your couch maybe. You should probably take a year off from being a Cyclone fan. We actually have a decently sized fan base since CMC has been here and I'm not seeing anything this spring that suggests you'll make the fan 2 deep.

We had a pretty decently sized fanbase before CMC got here as well. Pre Pollard days are another story.

Who can forget the glorious days of Crutchfield left, Crutchfield right, Crutchfield up the middle, Punt.

I was actually a bit disappointed no one asked a questions about if/how they might approach spring practice any differently to not have such a slow start to the season.

Jared tried to by asking about any change to spring practice routine. Still surprised Randy didn't go there. Just went with why is this year different?

Moving the needle for recruiting is nearly impossible, ISU isnt gonna pay under the table, wont out compete for NIL, has horrible weather, does not have an abundance of females, does not have legal drugs, does not have beautiful scenery, why would some star player in Texas or Florida or Georgia come to Iowa St over a closer team or a team with more cache like Michigan. The only hope is the cache of CMC could bring them. I have had to explain this to Iowa fans all the time also who think they should out recruit teams above them, its laughable really, both Iowa and Iowa St currently have phenomenal coaches and out perform their recruiting, which shouldnt even be expected.

Why? Campbell isn't going to say anything of substance about it.

I really don't know why we even have press conferences with Campbell any more. He doesn't like them, and intentionally says nothing. That's not going to suddenly change.

I've lived all over the U.S. Maybe, just maybe Iowa has community value which translates to better team development. Maybe Iowa has better family values which translate to better character development. And maybe, just maybe Iowa is a place where parents want their children to go to get an education. I'm so tired of the immoral arguments for getting better athletes. I've played soccer throughout the country and was never on a team with the 'best' athletes, but was always on the team that finished first. Why? Because of the aforementioned reasons.

I accept your points and yes I would want my child to go to Iowa State over others, but the P5 recruits mostly come from Florida, Texas, Georgia, California etc., and Clemson and Alabama run clean programs, many places with much more cache than ISU run clean programs, its a geograpical problem at the heart of it, move Iowa to border Georgia and Mississippi and the recruiting needle can be moved, but since that wont happen its the cache of CMC that is our only hope.

I'm hoping with Dekkers having a bigger arm, we can utilize a spread offense a bit more. I get that's not Campbell nor Manning's style, but Dekkers has the ability to throw some bombs downfield (one of BP's weaknesses). And if we're not going to make a ST hire, I hope they really focus on that and address it.

Everyone’s OL has guys dinged up or injured…. it’s just an excuse.

The truth is…. our OL has basically always been avg at best….. they gotta be better.
Campbell isn't one to make excuses, but he and Meyer's both said preseason the OL was 11 deep. I think that's the number that got thrown around quite a bit.

So one of these can't really be true. Either we weren't legitimately 11 deep, the 11 weren't as good as they thought, or we were REALLY banged up. If we had more than 6 legitimate chronic injuries on the OL... that's concerning.

Coaches must think moving Johnson to safety will shore up those inexplicable long 3rd down completions. But that leaves a gaping hole at corner.
