I was never worried about him leaving. He likes it here. We finally have our guy. Why do we even have these paranoid discussions?

Nothing remains the same for ever. Very foolish to take anything or anyone for granted these days. ISU has to be commited to the footbal program just as much or more than the coach. I'm not sure the ISU contingent and faithfull have done that in full yet. How anyone expects a coach to be more commited than the base of the program is unreasonable.

As long as we have a coach who is moderately successful here this will be brought up every year when there are coach openings. To believe blindly that your coach will stay no matter what is just being plain naive. College football is a business.

This, we can't just assume he will stay here because of the local ties. If the program keeps moving forward in the direction he is moving it, other schools will come and offer. He seems like the guy who might stay for a little less, but fans and the administration need to prove that we are committed.

Uh, aren't you an Iowa State fan? Do you ever STOP worrying? We're a pretty glass half empty fan base with how often we get kicked in the nuts.

It is sometimes hard to be an ISU fan. It has been a pretty rough couple of decades. I still walk around with my hand covering my junk, prepared for the next nut shot.

Was never worried. If however he puts together back to back bowl seasons in the next 2 years I would start to get worried.

I agree, this is his destination job but if he keeps bringing success, JP will have to step and pay market rate, at some point.

In Paul Rhoads we trust. This guy is as genuine as they come, we will really have to screw up for him to leave the program at this point. 5 years from now and facilities aren't up to his standards then worry.

Apparently Pitt has found their man, and he's not from Ames.

Miami's Haywood ready to take Pitt job - College Football - Rivals.com
I wasn't worried in the first place because it was a lateral move. I don't care what success Pitt had in the early 80's; that was 30 years ago and no one remembers.

The guy isn't going anywhere for a couple of years at the earliest. His family will keep him here unless someone offers him $3 million. Pitt wasn't going to offer that kind of $$$. Bigger programs aren't going to take a flyer on him untill he puts together a couple winning seasons.

As long as we continue to upgrade facilities Rhoads will stay.

I agree completely with your sentiments... Paul Rhoads will stay here as long as he wants to, and then either retire or move on to another job.

Coaching is a "Business" for these coaches and they will do whats in the best interests of their "Career"... or I'll put it this way....the coaches will just follow the money...

Like Johnny Majors to Pittsburgh or Earle Bruce to Ohio State.... I love Iowa State University but, Its not a Destination......Its still a steppingstone to a better more lucrative job....
