Eh, this is just another case of runaway message board hype. Our bball has been so bad for so long that any glimmer of hope got blown way out of proportion. Look at the facts. There seem to be a lot of internet rumblings that we lost the scrimmage to Nebby. We didn't look that strong in our exhibition. We didn't close out strong against Lehigh. Drake speaks for itself.

College hoops is a guard's game, we have no PG. Our head coach, while a legend at ISU, has a coaching resume that could easily fit on his business card. We have a large crop of transfers, Royce, who has never played at the college level, and the rest were certainly not standouts at their former schools.

Take off the cardinal color glasses and look at the facts and tell me that this looks like the recipe for a team to go from the bottom of the league to the NCAA tourney in a year.

If I remember correctly (& I could be wrong), We were picked 8th in a 10 team league....

Maybe they are right and this is just another mediocre ISU team...Time will Tell Boys, Time will Tell...

Although I don't like what you said, I can't disagree with it.

Wrong. It means that this team has a long ways to go if it wants to see a post season tourney. It means that this team can't just show up to beat a mediocre MVC team. It means that for this team to progress it needs to play better defense.
We need to copy the gals defense from last night.....

It's way too early to judge whether Hoiberg can "coach" or not. As of now, we have no quarterback. That is a big problem on O and leads to problems on D as well. Right now, we're a fast/small team that plays slow tempo because we have no PG.

This is going to be a rough year. We will struggle to win games away from Hilton and will probably lose a few of those too.

Next year, will tell a lot more about how good of a coach Fred is, because all of these guys will have been in the program for 2-3 years, and he will have a complete team which includes a PG.

If next year's team looks as lost, then we have problems.
That is a tough situation to be in. That means every possession will be important and we will have all close games like McD days.

I think the team is struggling with their roles right now as well as the coaching staff. Cornell Mann is a flat-out recruiter. Just listening to him during the half-time radio interview I didn't get the feeling he had a good grasp of what adjustments needed to be made. TJ is trying to become an X and O's guy, but has been a recruiter for so long I don't think he is there yet. Fred seems more like a recruiter head cheerleader of the program. He doesn't put off the image of an X and O's guy. We really miss Lutz.

Wow two games in and the divide is already forming. If this season goes south after all the hype and talk among us how this was going to be big...it's going to be a long drawn out meltdown
Does anyone remember when we hired CFH 18 months ago and the optimistic view was to make a post season tourney (NIT or Dance) in 2-3 years because it was going to take time to bring up talent level and gain coaching experience. CFH has tried to ramp up the talent level faster but he's still very inexperienced and the team has only played in 2 real games together. Now some people are ********,etc b/c we may not be an NCAA team this year...based on 2 games.

I will be very disappointed if this team doesn't make it to a post season tourney this year.

Agree. In fact, "very disappointed" might be an understatement, for me, especially if the tourney is anything but the Real Tournament.

My preseason projection was 20-11/9-9, which may end up on the uncomfortable fringe of a bid. I'll deal with that if it arises. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect that level.

If ISU is 18-6 in early February, I won't be thinking much about a loss at Drake. That's when we'll know if this was growing pains or an unsettling trend.

It's normal to be a little on edge when that loss happens in Game 2 of a season, partly because there aren't many changes to "balance" that loss with an equally unexpected win until at least the U-M game, and probably not until the Big 12 season begins.

Not much room for error for a couple of months.
