The wife and I will be in Chicago this weekend and are looking for a place to watch the Baylor game. We are staying downtown, a few blocks in from the Navy Pier and it would be great to find an Iowa State sports bar to watch the Iowa State game as well as all the other games on Saturday. I checked the Iowa State Alumni of Chicago Facebook page and did not find anything specific about this weekend. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

That is about a 25 minute car ride from where we are, but definitely has the Iowa State flavor we are looking for. I would assume they would have the game on even though it is on ESPN+?

The Chicago Alumni page had it on there.

If, for some reason, they don't have the game you can still enjoy a frosty Old Style in the shadow of Wrigley.

Awesome. Thanks for the tips. Wife says we can’t check in until 3 anyway and we land at 11AM at O’Hare, so thinking we grab an Uber or train from there and go directly to Murphy’s for lunch and the game. Any opinion if the rail / uber / cab from O’Hare to Murphy’s. Assume we would not have an issue hanging on to a couple of carry on bags and a backpack at Murphy’s?

Should have looked at a map first. I guess we take the blue line to our hotel. Check our bags and then the red line to Murphy’s. Hopefully we can get that all done between landing at 11 and kick off at 2:30.

You could take Blue Line to Addison and then Uber or CTA bus to Sheffield. Uber should be a lot more reasonable from Addison Blue Line otherwise bus should be easy to catch.

Didn't realize they were pro Iowa St. Several photos with a flag out front. Anyone know the connection?

Murphy’s has been the official Iowa St bar in Chicago since at least 2016 (thats when I started going there for game watches). There’s always quite a few fans there for all the games. And its packed with ISU fans for big games. Not sure what the actual connection is on how the Alumni Assoc chose that bar, though.

You’ll be fine. Blue line from ORD to downtown is 45-60 mins.
Red line from downtown to Murphy’s is 30 mins.

Keep in mind, Iowa plays Northwestern today at Wrigley field, also at 2:30. The bars will be packed with those annoying fans, at least up until kickoff. (Edit: Nevermind, its next Saturday.)

PS: get the ISU souvenir beer mug at murphy’s. They’re $5 and you get cheap refills. You buy the mug from Patrick, the ISU Alumni assoc leader there, not from the bar.
