Read somewhere that 50% of the players who attain 1 year of service time in MLB never make 2 years. Wouldn't doubt that the other pro leagues are similar.

There are a ton of weird collective bargaining issues that make it VERY tough to break into the MLB and NBA and even harder to stick very long. Both leagues are very veteran friendly making it easier to hang around for a long time once you've "made it". The NFL is almost the opposite, especially with their latest collective bargaining agreement (which is a total owner friendly joke) where it makes it hard to stay as a vet and easier to bring in young guys to take their spots.
