confused by so many people are saying or inferring monte will do something dumb... am i missing something? or just by saying that is stating how important monte is, even more so, now.

I don't get it either. This confirms for me that Monte isn't going anywhere and has told Fred as much. Fred then told CC that he's looking at the same thing at least for next season and CC is transferring. No big deal.

Clayton Custer transferring from Iowa State, sources told ESPN. No relation to the Colonel.

A bit of a shocker.

Is the "shocker" reference yours or from Goodman? Could be a hint.

The curse of recruiting the best players is that they actually want to play. Best of luck to him. Always seemed to be a team player here. Even though he wasn't getting into the games, I noticed he would often be the first one out to greet players after an opponent called a momentum-breaking timeout.

Three open scholarships now for 2015/2016 season, curious to see if Fred tries to bring in some bigs or looks at that kid out of Fordham.

You pretty much answered your own question. If you have three scholarships available you should probably look at both options.

I pretty much expected this... that bought with Mono hurt him this year, and hurt us a little going forward. He was looking at least another year as a backup PG so I can't blame him. Hoping Hoiberg saw this coming as well.

I assume Fred will try to bring in a Freshman or Sophomore PG transfer who will redshirt next year.

These posts suck

Custer is a good player; I have no idea why he wants to transfer, but I wish him the best

If I remember right, Oklahoma State was the closest competitor for him but I don't know if he'd look to go Big 12 or what his plans are. Maybe Mizzou if he wants to stay close to home? Total speculation.

I'm pretty sure he's a Kansas fan.

I would be curious to hear the thinking behind this. Isn't it a fairly sure thing Monte goes pro after next year? So even if Custer sits much of next year he would have been the guy in 2016-17, same as he would if he transfers and sits out.

I'm not trying to hammer him when I say this, but it makes me wonder if he made a competitive decision that he can make more of an impact at a mid-major. Will be curious to see how this plays out.

I'd say one of two things happen if Monte leaves after next year:

1) Cooke is the PG for the following 2 years
2) Fred signs a stud HS PG in '16

Not surprising at all. Best of luck to him. There simply aren't many minutes available for him as long as Monte is here.

He had some good offers. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if he does end up back at a Kansas State or an Oklahoma State and have a very good career there. Maybe he will go the mid-major route, but regardless he's a good player who can certainly be successful in D1 basketball.

Diallo, a transfer big that has to sit out and a transfer PG that has to sit out would be pretty fantastic this offseason

Sorry to see him go, but if he didn't see the playing time he wanted, going forward, then he's got to do what he's got to do. Wish him nothing but the best.

Can't say I'm surprised.

Im not surprised he's transferring.....I'm surprised he's doing it THIS year.

he had to know he wasn't unseating Morris this year or next as a starter. In games he played he didn't look terribly ready to contribute.

I mean he was so gung-ho about being a Cyclone, committed really early didn't he?

Either way....good luck kid and thanks for your work this year.

I like Clayton a lot but it seemed pretty clear that his lack of size and strength would make it difficult for him to be a significant contributor next year. The parting of ways is a good move for him and our program.

I'm expecting Fred's staff will find a JC transfer who is more physically ready to give some back up minutes to Monte next year.

It's pretty cool that our program has reached the level where we're worrying about the quality of our 2nd and 3rd stringers (kind of like Nebraska football in the 80's).

Got to keep Monte healthy!!

Dang, I thought he was going to grab a few more minutes next year, then be ready to take over if Monte were to leave.

Ummm Hallice Cooke???? Custer was never going to be the guy at point for ISU. A good back up was pretty much his ceiling.

I'm sure there are people trying to get into Monte's ear and telling him he's ready for the NBA now.
