Not surprising, was expecting this. Best of luck to him. There simply aren't going to be any significant minutes for him as long as Monte is here.

I was hoping he'd develop into a solid Big 12 point guard, but if the playing time wasn't there this year and won't be there in the near future I can't blame him. Seems like a guy who would be well served to go to a JUCO, prove himself there and then decide if he wants to go back into a major conference or stick at a lower level.

Best of luck Clayton!

Wish it wasn't so, but I figured this would happen. Just too much talent ahead of him and knowing FH, if he can get another good PG he will.

Best of luck! Wish we could have redshirted him.

confused by so many people are saying or inferring monte will do something dumb... am i missing something? or just by saying that is stating how important monte is, even more so, now.

Three open scholarships now for 2015/2016 season, curious to see if Fred tries to bring in some bigs or looks at that kid out of Fordham.

Pretty disappointed by this. Seemed like a good kid who wanted to be a Cyclone. I was optimistic that after another year behind Monte, he would be ready to take the reigns. Not really worried, because I know Fred will find another great piece to the puzzle with this scholarship, but wish things had worked out with Clayton.

Anyway, best of luck to him in all his future endeavors and thanks for being a Cyclone.

Bummer.

Isn't it crazy how college basketball has really changed? Meaning, it used to be the norm that guys would "emerge" about their junior year for two solid seasons. Now it really is "play now or find a place to play now."

I looked at his offers...always interesting...would he have better off going to K-State and having a chance now? Just always wonder if it's a matter of an athlete not finding the right fit right away and would they be better off setting their sights to a realistic place to play what they think they will get to play?

Would guess Hallice would get spot PG minutes next year if his rehab is successful

I would be curious to hear the thinking behind this. Isn't it a fairly sure thing Monte goes pro after next year? So even if Custer sits much of next year he would have been the guy in 2016-17, same as he would if he transfers and sits out.

I'm not trying to hammer him when I say this, but it makes me wonder if he made a competitive decision that he can make more of an impact at a mid-major. Will be curious to see how this plays out.

In the era of transfers I don't think we'll see any more HS players redshirt. If they RS and then it doesn't work out, they lose a year of eligibility (see SDW)

Sorry to see Clayton go, I'll be a fan where ever he ends up (he'd make a real good Shocker).

Good move for him. Hoiberg was going to just recruit over him. Will fit in better at a mid-major.

Seems a bit premature to say he's transferring to a mid major. It's not like he's a scrappy underdog. The guy was a four star recruit out of high school with offers from three other Big 12 teams (per Rivals).

Whatever the reason for the transfer, best of luck to him. Really creates an immediate need for a backup plan at PG.
