Clear blobs of gelatinous goo... from the sky?

Several days ago when we had that round of storms, I came home an noticed what I assumed were surprisingly clear hail stones in my yard. I didn't think much of it as there had been hail in the area. Well, I was out mowing my lawn today and noticed remnants of these same objects in my front yard. When I went to touch one, I was surprised to see that they were gelatinous, and would break apart between my fingers. I then assumed the neighborhood kids must have blown something up or strewn something across the lawn while screwing around. What it could have been, I don't know, but then I found more of it in my back yard and in different areas of my property. What the heck are these things?!

Most are a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch in diameter. I'm now wondering if I made a mistake by touching any of it. Below are some pics. I hate to sound overly paranoid, but should I be reporting this to someone... to have it tested, or something??? Initially, there were probably hundreds of these blobs, but most have since been washed out or settled into the lawn. I'm baffled.

Check to see that one of your neighbors isn't lopsided...sounds as if someone lost a breast implant that went through the lawnmower.

Have you had anything applied to your lawn recently? Fertilizer? It looks like those hydrating gel particles you might find in lawn patch. They are small until they absorb moisture, then they swell up and look like those pictures. I'm not sure how they would have gotten there though.

Here's a picture of the gel particles CyOps mentioned. I was thinking the same thing. We often use these in our planters and it looks the same.

Haven't applied anything to the lawn recently. I did some fall seeding, so applied a starter very early in the season, but that's been some time ago. Went back out to the lawn to look around some more, and the stuff is everywhere when you look closely.
