people need to take a chill pill yes the season did not go how we wanted it to go . we were playing very young in very important positions qb rb wr (except x) tight end db (except anthony johnson). and except for tcu we were in every single game.

baylor - if beau doesnt get eject on 1st drive different ballgame
kansas-- freshman kicker had a couple misses other wise win
k state- we have the ball for the final driver to set up win just missed on couple passes
texas -- normal surehanded x drops the go ahead touch down pass another probable win
okalahoma-- ehh
ok state - noel drops another sure fire go ahead td pass int the 4 qrt
texas tech - 2 missed fg again chip shots other wise win

i remember before matt became the head coach we were getting smoked by pretty much every team on the schedule besides kansas.

we have a very strong core comnig back if you look at the d line line backers and with tampa and purchase on the corners and beau at safety our db field will probably be rated top 3 in big twelve . dekkers got a lot of experience this year (he got no help from the running game at all ). i really like norton and sanders (plus we have abu sama coming in).

oline i personal think moving downing to center was the worst move we made but that is a debatable subject. yes we need some new leader ship in the oline area but you have tyler miller so tyler maro fr remsburg coming back along with simmons.

our recored could have been 9-3 instead of 4-8 if we just got some breaks that didnt go our way. i still believe in matt campbell he will get things figured out . we had 5 years of success we can again

It's unlike a CMC team to regress during the season, but I think that's what happened. Some of the mistakes that were made at the end of the season were the same ones from the beginning of the season.

The consolation is that we're not being out-talented in these games, and the problems are very fixable. The defense should be strong enough to set the tone for next year again, but they can't do it all. The O-line development is the key for changing the W/L record. We have to be able to run the ball with how Campbell manages a game.

We are 1-10 in our last 11 one score games since the OSU game in 2021. That pattern is extremely concerning to me, as it seems like we've completely lost any and all "clutch factor" we had. Campbell just needs to rebuild the winning culture that seems to have left with last year's class.

Football (and most sports) are a zero sum game. There's no sense in doing the "shoulda, woulda, coulda" routine. We have consistently found ways to lose games we either should have won, and that's a big issue.

At the end of year you are what your record says you. We weren't anywhere close or even deserved to be 9-3. That's for teams that usually execute in all 3 phases of the game.
Yeah...this is pretty much it. ISU's offense finished about 10 points behind the 9th place team in points per game (both in and out of conference - for reference the spread between #9 and #1 was about 10 ppg for all games and 14 ppg for conference games). That doesn't scream 9-3...it screams 4-8.

It's not really fair to judge the team by the offense alone. The composite of offense and defense is the margin of victory. As a team, they were very close throughout the year. It's beyond obvious that the reason it was close was almost entirely the work of the defense though.

Sure, if our special teams and offense weren't completely inept we probably sneak out a couple more wins, but I was told only ******** programs care about going 6-6.

Yet you are still here shittin on the program
Derp, ok, I haven't said anything about the program in years. I fact, if you read some of my posts I'm probably one of the biggest Campbell supporters on this site. The year was a total dumpster fire so deserves to be called out.

Was it really that close? For conference games, ISU's defense gave up 6 ppg less than the average conference defense gave up, and scored 15 points less than the average conference offense scored.

The "if we only had done this" mentality assumes that the other team played perfectly and didn't miss any/many opportunities or make many/any mistakes. That's rarely the case.

Splitting those losses with weird endings perhaps makes it feel like some progress was being made. A bowl game with a bit of a rebuild points to a solid foundation.

Sputtering over and over again and looking disjointed for a majority of the time leaves a pretty hollow impression though.

There is one HUGE elephant in the room that no one addresses when they point to the offense and say they completely failed our defense. If you do that, you have a very shallow understanding of the game.

Our defense was actually aided to an extreme amount by our offense. I felt our offense extremely underachieved in scoring points but they did the one thing that aids the defense tremendously, they moved and held the ball. If your offense has the ball and wins the TOP, then the defense does not have as many possessions that it has to defend and will look even better by having less points scored against it and less yards given up.

Our main offensive problem is not moving the ball, it’s converting in the red zone. Campbell has the offensive style he wants, it slows down the game and makes closer games which makes the defense fresher and look better stats wise. Why I don’t see any major change in the OC and offensive philosophy.
