This should be good!

My bad. :D
My perception is Coach Campbell recruiting Midwest has drastically reduced transfers. Not sure if that is perception or reality.

He recruits his type of kid and indoctrinates them in the religion of "Best Version of Yourself".

I would argue that reducing dependence on tx, fl, and ca is probably a good thing for ISU.

Iowa State was not getting top tier talent from those states... you are better off getting the best of the midwest (+26) than fighting with everyone else for the leftovers in tx/fl/ca (-30).

If you can get talented guys in those states, go for it. But better off focusing on states closer to you and building a reputation/brand with those HS coaches and kids.

If you are a national brand, you can go in and get top tier talent from the top states. If not, you just get the kids everyone else passed on.
Plus you're getting kids who know what winter is, that probably plays a small factor in all of this but I feel like getting players who know what they are getting into when they come to Ames might help a little bit in retention and seasonal depression. Odds are they have been depressed by winter before so they know what to expect.

I love how CMC has flipped away from the south and relies on the Midwest much more. I feel like it’s easier to find diamonds in the rough in the Midwest. Every recruiting service covers the south so heavily and guys can go unnoticed up here. The guys we got from the south were guys that had no real options in the south
I've always wondered if players from the south, and especially Texas, are systematically overrated because of all the attention recruits get from that region. Makes sense that would be one of the reasons Texas consistently underperforms despite routinely having some of the best ranked recruiting classes.

Some of it is just that those states do spring football. The extra reps are seen as super important. Whether they are actually better than just playing another sport is hard to say. I'd say either is probably better than doing only football. Guys that wrestle, do track and field, baseball, basketball etc develop lots of good movement patterns from those other sports too. Maybe the mental football reps provide unique benefit, but for HS kids with such a wide range of abilities I don't see that being a huge difference maker.

And winter is good for the circulation.
