Really bad in 2019. Tied with Stanford UCF. Woof.

Btw that game was the third highest rated game for ISU in 2019. OU and WVU were higher and the game against texas was the same. So you do still get a solid ratings bump for playing Iowa compared to the normal opponents. Not sure if that will still play going forward but was true in 2019.

Surprised WV was that high.

With Iowa State-Iowa on FS1 vs. Stanford-UCF on ESPN, I'd say that was actually pretty good. Stanford was also coming off a 9-4 season, and UCF off of their 12-1 season. Also, 2019 had all the rain delays, right? Not quite sure how that would affect ratings/viewership, but it definitely would in some way.

I don't disagree that Stanford or UCF were good, I just don't think too many people probably cared about watching those teams. I could easily be wrong though.

The game probably isn’t going away unless conferences start playing more conference games.

It won’t happen but I wouldn’t be against a Home/away/off three year rotation.. where the off years we were able to schedule schools like Nebraska, Mizzou, and so on instead.

The "we're too cool for this/Iowa is boring/what do we get out of this" crowd can get bent.

College sports, especially football, is about rivalries built over generations. So many great ones are gone now, so the ones we still have need to be protected at all costs.

Extend this game to 2100.
Even if they did, I STILL wouldn't go to histrionic Kinnick in 2100

Are we seriously playing North Dakota?

I took the daughter on a college visit there and our hotel was essentially across the road from their football stadium. While waiting for the welcome event to start I talked to some of the students running a booth. They said that daughter needs to go to hockey games at UND. It was the best time ever. When I mentioned that we were by the (indoor) FB stadium and asked them about FB games they got really quiet. Then one said she was a senior and had never been to a FB game. They then talked about hockey some more.

Is it really any worse than SEMO?

North Dakota would destroy SEMO.

Their fans don't really care but they've been solid enough over the past decade.

If you're going to play FCS games, quit scheduling Valley teams. It's like playing a good G5 league but not getting full credit for the win. Western Illinois and Indiana State are the only two I'd even consider. Got get OVC, ASun and WAC teams.

We have too many fans who obsess over the Iowa game. Cancelling the series would maybe allow those fans to ease off on the fixation.

That game is mostly meaningless, I'd rather focus on conference play, and schedule a buy game for our best chance at making the new playoff format.
