We have too many fans who obsess over the Iowa game. Cancelling the series would maybe allow those fans to ease off on the fixation.

That game is mostly meaningless, I'd rather focus on conference play, and schedule a buy game for our best chance at making the new playoff format.
Are you under the impression fans’ focus impacts the play on the field? Did we lose the Baylor game because i had a cy-hawk party?

The problem isn't the CyHawk game. It's a great rivalry game.

The problem is P5 programs want the revenue from playing at least 7 home games each year. So most schools play 2 or 3 games against FCS and G5 schools.

Games like Iowa v Iowa State is what make college football great! What P5 teams don't need is playing SEMO, UNI, etc.

I don't mind playing Iowa but would prefer it to maybe be every other year. I'd like to sprinkle in some variety of Arky, Minny, etc.
I AGREE ...Personally I would like to see us play Nebraska because that would be an easy win over a big ten school!!
....and remember GO CYCLONES!

I don't care if we play Iowa anymore. There are compelling arguments for and against it. What I do know is neither school is above playing the game. We're two schools in major conferences that are located in a low population state. We have a lot more in common than most fans from either side is willing to admit.
I AGREE but the vast majority of hok fans would not agree with us!!

Agree that $$$ will drive this decision.

Related: does the new playoff format impact the Iowa game scheduling decision? 3-0 in the non-conference might be a requirement for a team like ISU to be considered. Sucks - but we've clearly had trouble beating Iowa.

Side note: I am all for cancelling this game, or going to a 2 on 2 off.
I went over to I-City for the 1st game played in 1977 and when we lost, I knew this game was a mistake...Lets be real honest here, Iowa has dominated this series since then and the game means a lot more to them than it does to the ISU fanbase!!

JFC... Can we let this game die already and start scheduling more interesting P5 opponents?
I'm indifferent on this. My 5 years in Ames it was always fun having the rivalry with high school friends who went to Iowa coming to Ames and vice versa going there. That plus the 9 game conference schedule makes it hard to justify scheduling another power 5 non-con game and even then who would it be? Minny, Nebby, Mizzou, Illinois? All yawns in my perspective. I'm more interested in getting some more regional basketball rivalries going like Creighton, Wichita St, hell even 1 of the smaller Chicago schools like Loyola.

It would be nice if all of the conferences went back to 8 conference games since the SEC has been doing just fine only playing 8. Then institute a requirement that teams have to play 2 non-con games against P5 competition to qualify for the playoff. This makes room for a rivalry game and another legitimate matchup and nobody feels like they are hampering their playoff chances by doing it since everyone has to do it.

And yes, I mean it, the teams from the non P5 leagues would have to play 2 P5 games to qualify as well. None of the conference auto qualifying as a league champion when you haven't been tested out of conference.

Good luck getting P5 teams to play the upper level non P5 schools that are competing for the playoff.

Would the tables flip and Coastal Carolina would have to pay to play Vanderbilt?
