Hey, this will be my first football season since I moved to Houston. I know there are quite a few Cyclones down here, is there any particular place where you guys go to watch games or anything?

That's all well and good, but I've been signed up to get updates on game watches, etc, for a while and haven't gotten anything from them.

Yeah, it looked to me like the Alumni Association club down here was pretty dormant, so I was seeing if there was any "unofficial" location.

The unofficial place was my house, at least for a few of us. I had some friends down here for the past few years, but one couple moved back to Ames and the other one's wife got a job in Cleveland (Ohio, not Texas), so they're gone as well.

I live in Houston and about a dozen of us used to get together at the Wheelhouse. This year we may go with the Alumni group meeting spot.

In the past, SRO's at the Northwest Mall (290 at 610) was the place for the official Cyclone club, but with I-290 expansion I'm not sure if that will still be the case. Not sure if they've closed or will have to because of it. I think they're fine, just haven't specifically asked.

SRO's typically get all of the games and if there's no official group call ahead and ask if they get the game (they get pretty much everything) and if you get there and can't find it on ask for the manager and he'll put in on in a dedicated area or at least a tv where you want to sit and watch.

To find out, call SRO's 713-683-5025

Cyclone club doesn't always draw/show and I've gone to SRO's on my own numerous times. I remember two years back when ISU beat Texas Tech I was the only one there with a Tech fan. Just two of us to our very own big screen tv. It was sweet all the same I tell you.

Most of the time now I just watch the game at home, but Iowa game on Big 10 Network might be a good one to go to SRO's for.

I've seen other alumni associations here from time to time like PSU and Nebraska at SRO's.

Wife and I are both Cyclones and lived in both Dallas and Houston for approx 5 yrs each. We just left Houston last year. There are more than a few Cyclones in Hou, but I agree the alumni club was not very active; certainly not like the Dallas club was when we were there.

We just got together with the other Cyclones we were personally friendly with at someone's house.

I've heard that SRO's is a good place to watch a game, but personally have never been there. Anytime I hear "290" in association with directions, I instinctively try to avoid it.

Don't blame you on avoiding 290.

The good news is it is right at the intersection of 290 and 610, so you can get there and avoid 290 depending on what direction you're coming from.

I live and work on the East side. Looking at directions, it appears to be a straight shot in on 10 (provided they don't have it torn up random weekends :twitcy:).

Previously, I've gone to BW3 in Rice Village (former ISU roommie lived near there so we could walk from his place), which was an OK place to watch a game. I saw us beat Iowa there last year, and there were a few Clones and Squawks there. Also watched us be Texas, and the Squawks who were there assured us that they were Cyclones on that day.

Bump. Looks like the location for the alumni club meeting is moved to the Mezzanine off the SW freeway.

Aw bummer, I live closer to the old location on 290, but I'm gonna watch the tulsa game with one of my tulsa-grad friends, and then I will be back up in Iowa for the next week, although not in IC. Maybe I'll be able to show up and meet some fellow fanatics for the Tech game since I doubt that this place will have cyclones.tv

I live in the Willowbrook area and the Mezzanine Lounge is quite a hike but may make that journey, especially if a bunch of clone fans will be there. I've watched games before at Stats Sports Bar and Grill at Louetta Rd. and Hwy 249. It's a true sports bar, not a bar that puts on soccer on a rickety tv and calls itself a sports bar. It's cozy and has good fan enthusiasm but only has two sound zones - though they will have many games around the nation without sound. They'll put on the "best game" for the main zone, my guess being Florida or Nebraska.
