Maybe they will realize how great this race is and people will volunteer. Heck I am in! I can't run it anymore, but I would sure volunteer.

This sucks! D2D is a staple with family and friends. It's the main reason I run in the spring and is incentive to get that winter beer weight off. What a bummer.

Agree this is sad, especially if that's the reason.

There are soooo many "fun runs" anymore though. Seems like every weekend there's a color run, leprechaun dash, red flannel run, etc, etc, etc.
Probably does stretch the volunteer crowd thin.

"Race officials announced Tuesday that the popular early June race will dissolve after the 39th edition on June 2, 2018. Dam to Dam will revert to the 20-kilometer distance it used for the first 34 years of the race. Dam to Dam also will finish on Locust Street at Cowles Commons, which was its previous finish location."

Final race going back to the 20k format?

It sounds more like the volunteer committee that organizes/runs the race doesn't want to do it pro bono anymore - not that they can't find enough average joe volunteers to man the stations.

So, it was basically the screw it we are taking our ball and going home decision. Nice work.

I'm not saying it's easy to put something that big together I just think they are taking the easy way out instead of looking for legit answers and fixes to their problems.

Seems fishy. Why not put out a press release saying we need more volunteers or we will be forced to stop it?

I assume if they did that they would get plenty of people to volunteer. Seems like they are using "lack of volunteers" as an excuse to end it if you ask me.

Sounds like a good opportunity for one of you to take the reigns and keep it going. Just rename it damn to damn.

My previous neighbor is one of the founders. It is a pure passion that these guys were putting this race on, a group of young professionals, back in the day, that were travelling the country to run races.

I think they were running in Dallas, and the race had bands everywhere along the route and a big party at the end. They wanted to bring that type of race/atmosphere to DSM. He and his buddies put a lot of time into this over the years.

edit: just read the Rag article

The replacement should be a loop. The shuttles were tough logistically with so many people.
