If Self leaves, it could put KU in a tough situation with Manning as an assistant. Would they be forced to give him the nod. Many times hiring an assistant may be OK, but with KU being a top school will they be settling to satisfy the fan base and past-legend/current assistant?

If Manning gets the job and doesn't produce, then what? Do they fire one of their best players ever? Or do they watch their team become mediocre? It could work out good for KU if Manning does great, but living up to KU standards would be tough.

If Manning doesn't get the job but wants it, does he leave or does he stay as an assistant? This would likely turn out bad either way.

I would be willing to go all in with my credits that Bill Self doesn't leave will be the Jayhawks head coach for as long as he wants.

0% on Danny Manning being the coach.

Bill Self is gone. But it might not be to OSU!

If I were to put myself into Self's shoes and my alma-mater came calling with a $3+ million per year contract for the head coaching position after winning the National Championship, I would have a hard time turning them down. Either way it's a good thing. Get paid well (like he isn't already...) at the school you went to, or stay at KU and get paid well (they will renegotiate contracts) and continue to build up a dynasty (not saying he would, but it's hard to not be good at Kansas).

I'm not sure what I would do. Probably go to my alma-mater, since I just won a NC for the current school.

Where is he going. He just got a lifetime contract to coach KU a place that he got his coaching start at. His job just got a lit easier, why would he leave? Slim chance Manning will be head coach there.

I think he stays at KU, at least for now. Then in about 4-8 years when the next Oklahoma State coach leaves, Self takes the job and stays there until he retires.

I could see Self leaving now since he won the title...but even then, I think it's a long shot. I don't see him in the NBA, either. Not when he can make 3 mil per year in the college game.

What ever KU offers Bill Self in their renegotiated offer. I hope Boone Pickens doubles it and Bill walks away from Lawrence.

I think tonight just earned Bill a $3.8-4.0 million per year contract. Boone Pickens will pay top dollar....and that may push Lew Perkins to go a little farther in locking down Self down.

Net, Bill Self will be take over the "highest paid college coach" status from Billy Donovan AND a 10-year contract....

I think Boone Pickens should be refered as the owner of Oky St. He maybe the first person to own a college athletic dept. He is the Stienbrener and Jerry Jones of college sports.

Amen to that. And, to be fair, i'd L-O-V-E to have a Mr. Boone Pickens as a donor. And yes, i will now forever refer to him as "Mister" Boone Pickens!
