So a friend and I were debating this today...is it ok to date a Hawkeye fan?

It's a legitimate concern, really...

Yes. My sister married one and he's now a Cyclone fan, too. (He's a big wrestling fan and became a huge fan of Cael Sanderson and ever since he converted to a Cyclone fan.) After this year in football,he seen the light and became a fan in football and basketball, too.

He still owns some Hawkeye gear, but never wears it around my family or my sister.

Started dating a haweye season ticket holder. In the last 9 years and 3 kids, I'm the only one who's been to a game at kinnick (once). Kids are Cyclones and she is most definitely a Cyclone

Im dating one right now. She probably now has more ISU clothing than Iowa clothing. She will still cheer for the Hawks when they play ISU, but cheers hard for ISU in every other game.

Haven't converted mine yet. I don't help matters when I hate on Iowa every given chance. I think she became a lot bigger Hawk fan since I came into her life. She's the only Iowa fan I know that watches their basketball team. She has attended three ISU events with me, all with positive results for the Cyclones (OSU football, Iowa bball, Texas bball.) She doesn't cheer against the good guys but she doesn't cheer for them...yet.

Yeah, it was easier to somewhat convert my g/f knowing she really is not into sports at all. I can get her to go to the occasional game, but she would much rather do just about anything else.

There's no such thing as a hawkeye fan AND a cyclone fan rolled into one.

And the "I cheer for the hawks except when the play the clones" or "I cheer for the clones except when they play the hawks" crowd are as bad.

Married one. You may have noticed the one person in section 205 wearing Hawkeye gear at the Iowa/Iowa State game. That was her. Luckily, the moments where she was the only person within 100 feet clapping were few and far in between.

Embarassing, isn't it?

Thing is, when a woman starts dating a hardcore sports fan, unless they're in the like top 5% of fanatical female sports fans, they tend to either change, or drop their allegiance in favor of the man's.

My fiance is a fairly hardcore UNI fan (she's a UNI alum and ran track for the Panthers), but she goes to a lot more ISU games. She'll always root for UNI when they play ISU, but she's definitely a Cyclone fan most of the time.

It's all just a result of fitting in to the crowd she finds herself in now. If she wasn't marrying a Cyclone, she probably wouldn't care about ISU either way.
