I saw a stat a year or two ago when ISU was playing on national tv. It was that in every game except for one that ISU had won with Coach Rhoads, the other team had scored 24 points or less. This has held true this year. Historically under Coach Rhoads, ISU does not win high scoring games. I do not see this changing with Lanning at quarterback. While Lanning played very well this last week, the 24 points ISU scored, was slightly less than the average the team scored in the first 7 games. If this team is going to win more games this year, the defense will have to keep the opponents scoring low.

The Texas team that beat Oklahoma did not play ISU. For whatever reason Texas showed up flat. Oklahoma showed up flat against Texas and was dominated. Oklahoma has not showed up flat for a game since Texas and has averaged scoring 60 points a game over its last three games.

The only exception really was OKSU that needed OT to get >24

Games ISU has won under Head Coach Rhoads when the other team scores 24 or more points in regulation:
TTech 2010, Iowa & OkState 2011, WV 2013, & Toledo 2014

Yes 24 seems to be the magic number but teams might struggle getting over 30 if we are running the ball as well as we have been and with Lanning draining the clock....BIG style football. Keep away.

3 of those 5 games went into OT . . . so what you're saying is, we need to play in more overtime games, right?

:pcool:

2010 vs Neb: Tied at 24 at the end of regulation. Lost in OT
Also, lost in OT to Toledo this year (never tied at 24 though)
Thought I would mention these in case someone didn't notice your jimlad
