Discount what I say, I do not know the inner workings of basketball X's and O's and coaching.

But, I just watched TJ's post-game press conference, and he spoke about so many elements of the game, when, where, how, who, it seemed like three-dimensional chess. Go watch it. It reminded me of this:

Yeah, we get it man, it's not difficult to figure out. It still doesn't mean Chatfield and Heise are better players.

You don't have to add a 9th guy every game. I was just a little surprised he didn't get in sooner today since we were blowing them out most of the game.

So don't get involved when we start talking about it if it upsets you that much.
Nah, I’ll keep calling out dumb post and threads when I see them.

Didn't see one for him like some of the other players have here so starting a thread. What a game by this young man last night! He's always been a guy we can count on when we need some good defense off the bench but he really put it all together last night it felt like. Was glad TJ found a moment to take him out and let the crowd give him a big standing ovation as he deserved it. Hoping this is only the start of some big things to come from him going forward. He's been a team player and done whatever has been asked of him in limited minutes and was really fun watching him provide a big spark for us last night.
Tj is certainly missing the boat on Watson. he is the best athlete on the entire team, with so much potential. He must not do something at practice that demonstrates his inability to be in the top 8 player rotation. But, in just watching games, he would be in my top 7 pick. wish I really knew what happened at practice, cause he would be a starter or top 7 player in all the other big 12 teams, especially Houston.

He’s a great athlete. He’s in the program for three years now, so talking about potential doesn’t really make sense any more. He will not dribble and barely shoots. Not saying he shouldn’t be playing, but stop talking about potential for a guy that’s been around.

Going to let everybody in on a little secret. Every coach yaps on and on and on about defense and setting screens. But in the end, guys that can score and shoot and run the offense are far more valuable than an elite defender that brings little offense. It’s just coach speak because it’s hard to get guys to buy in on playing defense at a high level.

I like Watson. I expected him to play some. But he’s a great rebounder and a great help defender. He isn’t good at guarding on the ball with wings that can handle. He seems like he can shoot but doesn’t do it. He will not dribble pretty much ever, or make a pass that gets anybody a shot.

A lot of similar things could be said about Heise, so I get the fans’ confusion.

I think Watsons worthy of minutes on this team, but it’s going to be at the 4. But I’m just a fan watching.

I love his effort and his athleticism but his utility with the game on the line is just very niche / situational. On offense he can't handle the ball and can't get his own shot. On defense, he's not that great on the perimeter (got burned several times against ASU) and isn't big enough to guard large 4's and 5's. If he could consistently knock down a corner-three he'd be a really valuable rotation player, but he can't.

Go to be or find something else to do tonight. You obviously can't handle different opinions.
Not dumb ones.

Also you are the one getting worked up and responding to everyone about a bench players minutes after a 30 pt. win. I am just here to laugh and I have nothing but time.

You have no clue what you're talking about. I was in about the 30% minority on here who was excited about the TJ hire so don't even dare come up with bs like that.

Instead of thinking I hate coaches, did you ever think it's becuase I really like Watson? Nope, of course you didn't think of that.

I've been watching Iowa State for over 40 years, who gives a **** how many minutes of varsity bb anyone on this board played. It's completely irrelevant.
I played quite a bit, the whole season, of varsity BB, first team, in the 7th grade. This should make me an expert.A

A dumb one maybe, but an expert.

In the brave new NIL world it's supposed to be all about the bag. Maybe DeWat really likes being on the team, likes to win, likes ISU, and TJ is glad to have him. No team ever has 12-15 people that all get the same playing time (except Fran's a couple of yrs ago:))

This!

That is why I appreciate every Cyclone that puts on the jersey, comes to practice everyday, and works their butt off to make the team the best team possible.

This has got to be a troll, right? Just pushing the envelope of this discussion?

Agree. I think that we’ve all seen now how having multiple players in the floor that can’t shoot ends up. You have 2 guards who would rather drive than shoot, 2 bigs with decent post up games. Just can’t have guys on the perimeter that defenders don’t have to guard. It just clogs the lane too much. And it obviously put way too much pressure on cujo. Lipsey and Gilbert are great players, but they’re never going to be knock down shooters. If they were, there would be more of a place for Watson. I get that people think that he needs more time than Heise, but Heise has a different skill set and is really our only reserve guard.
