Awesome news! Potential to make an immediate impact, not just immediately start.

Excited to see this guy, but still not getting my hopes up.

It takes 11 players to make a good Big 12 defense. Here's one. Tribune's another. I think Jordan Harris can be a player next year. And Cotton-Moya. Just need 7 more good players.

All indications where that Ayeni was slated to play a ton and likely inside too which is not his true position. Ayeni should be a real nice 280lb DE next year for us. I can see Taylor/Pierson and Myers/Ayeni all sharing time at DE. Don't forget the light will go on for Dev Cousins too, he'll be entering his jr year and isn't small. I agree that if we can land at least one more Juco DT/NG it would be great. Pray for no injuries or departures.
Cousin already has a shoulder injury that will likely require surgery. Garcia was injured, Trent got hurt in the last game (any word?). So, I suspect it's a little late to be praying for "no injuries".

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Huge news...huge momentum boost for recruiting and the program. Just no way to deny it. Gotta keep it going and get a few more guys that can contribute but this is probably the biggest recruit since Lazard.

I expect Mutcherson and CM to make a big jump next season just simply from having plenty of talent and now a year starting under their belts.

Added CM. Slipped my mind. Going to wait until late August before I count on Mutcherson, but he definitely has the chance to be big time next year.

Good call on Mutcherson.

Still not enough, but a few more key pieces (another DL, LB, and maybe a corner if a good one is willing to come), and next years D could be average. Doesn't sound like much, but that would be a huge improvement from this year.

I had always thought Ayeni was slated for DT? Which is why I had question mark with him since he is playing a new position. We are set at DE, but we could use a true upperclassman DT since Cousin and Tucker should rotate at NG.

Any word if he was able to put on enough weight to play DT?

Listed at 6-2 268 so probably 6-0 250. Hope he put on at least 20 lbs.

I just want to point out that for the guys ISU has sent to the combine the heights and weights have always been very close. I think height/weight inflation used to be a much bigger issue than it is now.

I've seen a lot more players that were actually heavier than their listed weight because they don't update enough.

If they are off I'm pretty confident they are only a quarter inch or so high.

I remember people making these arguments about Royce White and Diante Garrett and how this guy was 6'5 and Royce was only an inch taller than him so he couldn't be a legit 6'8. Turns out White measured exactly 6'8 at the combine and Garrett measured a full 6'5 at some senior invitational thing.

They wanted Ayeni to move inside. Depending on what depth ends up inside, and how Cousins, Trent, Aka, and Garcia develop maybe they'll have him play on the outside. He'd definitely be a guy who could move inside in 3rd and long situations.

You can't necessarily take much from a highlight tape, but watching his you can certainly see his speed and explosive first step standout. You don't see many ~290 pound men move that fast and that's not something that a highlight tape against poor competition makes up. Seems to be an exceptional athlete and potential could provide some good inside pass rush.

Next year's d-line situation should be improved. If we can find a way to contain the running game, we are looking a potential 3rd down pass rush group of Pierson, Tucker, Ayeni, and Taylor which is actually a fairly strong group in terms of getting heat on a quarterback.
