Alright! Another DL commit. FYI-- Don't freak out because he isn't close to 300lbs and isn't that tall (he can use a redshirt to bulk up). There are different types of DTs out there. There are Terrance Cody type DTs that clog up the middle by eating up space (primarily in a 3-4) and then there are a bit smaller DTs that are quicker and try to get into the backfield to cause havoc/rush the passer (e.g. Tommie Harris in his first 3-5 years with the Bears).

6'1" is fine for a DT. Warren Sapp wasn't much, if any, taller. You don't need to be much over 6' to be a good DT. A DT exists to occupy blockers vs. the run and to push the pocket back against the pass. Height is more essential for DE's.

I asked earlier, but when did he open his commitment back up? Says he visited there this past weekend and never said anything about him de-committing before that.

I said on here a few weeks ago that we were getting him, so I'm assuming its been open for awhile.

Not really feeling this pickup...granted it is better than nothing but he is a little....small for a DT at 6'1".

What? Most good DT's are around that height. I think you are thinking of DE where you want to be a little taller.

C'mon. Recruiting is competitive. Barkley Hill thought it was in his best interests to go to Iowa. I wish him luck. And thought he would have been a contributor down the line. But in terms of need and impact, Hill's loss is not a make or break deal. Hill was hard nosed. Had very average speed at best. But I thought that he would fill a role like Jeff Woody does now.

At this point I would not take another back. I would focus on other positions. We need DL and LB at this point. Overall this class looks pretty good. I am pleased with the addition of another DT in Devlyn Cousin. Welcome aboard.

He should have decommitted over a month ago, then, right?
I know you love this board, and the IQ quotient trumps that of your parent message board, but you should really think of spending more time over there. And it will still be interesting to see what Johnson does after this weekend, huh? You always want to give your pitch last...

Stop talking about Hill like he is not at fault. Decommit when you get the offer. Don't hold firm for an extra couple of months and then decommit at the eleventh hour. Stop defending this kid.

Why? If he is not ALL IN then he needs to go somewhere else. Coker left a month or so ago as did Mikail McCall (sp.) So he saw a pretty good opportunity to play sooner in contrast to ISU who returns ALL of our RB's from last year and now Nealy and Standard are thrown in as well as they have completed their RS years. We have a very good stable of backs. And IMO, the quality of RB's that we have is a BIG reason why Hill decommitted.

Why hate on the guy? Better that he decommits now rather than a year or two from now.

Looking for sympathy when MSU poaches their DT commit.

Just saw that a Michigan commit changed his mind in favor of Cincinnati. This late in the game, recruiting is proving to be too fluid for anyone's comfort, it appears. Eights days until signing day. . . .
