As others have said on here tonight, TJ does need to go deeper in the bench to avoid guys getting run down be the end of the season. I get that we won’t ever have a bench to go 9 deep vs Houston but you sure can get guys minutes when you are blowing the doors off Baylor, Utah, TCU, etc.

I had fun watching Curtis in the Big 12 tourney vs BYU, had fun watching the comeback against BYU at Hilton though it fell short, had fun watching them against Auburn in the first half. Plenty of great memories this season.
Those 3 fun things were games we did not win.

I think I'm going to have to stop listening to CF podcasts, the hype machine of the athletic department. I'm old enough to remember when Nojus Indrusaitis looked great last summer before accumulating a grand total of 30 minutes of PT this whole season.

And don't forget about the depth we were supposed to have on this team. Like no other team in years, maybe decades, of Cyclone basketball.

So much this. We don't need to go 13-14 players deep like Fran's "derpth" years at Iowa...but...

One of the bigger reasons Iowa State FB is winning more under Campbell is because like McCarney & Rhoads teams he almost always has Big 12/D1 quality talent at the starter postions..

But it's what happens when he substitutes that is so impressive to me. The 2nd, 3rd, even 4th guys on the depth chart used to feel like MAC, Sun Belt, to even FCS avg level talent wise. Campbell was down to what? 7, 8th on the depth chart LBs this year and ISU was still able to accomplish what he could. Our bench depth is vastly improved with Campbell the past few seasons.

This basketball season has a lot of what ifs with injuries to Lipsey, KG, and even the non-season long ones like Milan & CuJo. But just 1-2 more depth players wouldn't made all the world of difference. It's too bad JT Rock/Indrusaitis/Watson/Fish/etc. weren't all ready to contribute more to ease the load on starters.

IMO - TJ has to find a way to go 2 deep at EVERY position with an 11th that could fill a few roles if needed. You need 10 guys at least through a 30+ game season. Because injuries might happen and games with foul trouble will definitely happen. An 8-9 man rotation just isn't enough.

This season is without question a disappointment. We went from being an elite 8/final 4 caliber team in December to a team that whimpered out of the post season without making any real noise. That has to be considered a disappointment given the expectations for this team and its early season performance.

I have faith in our head coach and where he is leading the program, but with NIL and the transfer portal, every season is a brand new reset.

Nobody is an Elite Eight or Final Four caliber team in December.

Because it's December.

Declaring the season a disappointment is just Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy, if you ask me. Should the team from November 25th have made it further than the round of 32? Sure. But that team died the day of the Momcilovic injury, if not earlier (Gilbert supposedly first tweaked his groin in December). If we want to complain about rotations/wear-and-tear, fine. But coaches all have to develop, very few who sustain success make multiple deep runs early in their P4 careers. Campbell had to adjust the football team’s training/practice-intensity after facing the fact that multiple teams ran out of steam in November. Maybe Otz will consider doing something similar. (Though, I think some people who are justifiably dejected tonight are very much discounting luck here. ISU had no major injuries in Otz’s first three seasons. This season was an avalanche. So it goes.) I also believe coaches have to learn how to win in the tournament. Does anyone here think Beard will even tread water against Izzo? If coaches like Kevin Keatts had all found the secret sauce for March success, we wouldn’t see the usual suspects in the Final Four most seasons. Tonight sucked, a lot. But all you can do is keep knocking on the door. I prefer that to being Iowa or Nebraska

The blaming of injuries is nauseating. It’s like it only happens to isu
Have sharp break his hand and miss 2 months, have roberts get pneumonia, miss 2 games and not be right for about 3 more, have cryer fight an injury for most of the conference season and then just be pretty much completely off the team the last month and have uzan injure his groin and either not play or be 50% for the critical home stretch. Where do you think houston would be? Yes injuries happen to everyone and it's part of the game but to say we didn't have more injuries to critical people than most this year is ignorant.

That was close to their situation last year. And they still won the natty! Oh wait...

If we keep doing this I’ll believe we actually went to the final four before it’s all over.

Kelderman by all accounts is a nice kid but when you lose one starting point guard and your only option is to play a walk on then either your bench talent is weak or you have done a poor job of developing the next man in.
