Disappointing season

25-10 feels disappointing, right? That's where the program's at now, and that's a good thing. We're holding ourselves to a high standard.

Let's be real, every blue-chip program has seasons where things don't click. Potential doesn't always translate to wins. This year looks like it was one of those.

TJ's a smart coach. He'll analyze this season, learn from the mistakes, and come back stronger. We've got a solid recruiting class coming in. Plus, you know TJ's gonna use his portal magic and add some key pieces.

Not exactly sure.
Two lesser mind-boggling questions come to mind on the season:

1. Why is Milan so inconsistent shooting? He'll bury them one game and the same wide open shots the next game, he'll miss and keep missing. Watching other teams, their sharpshooters rarely miss wide open shots.

2. What did Watson do to piss off TJ? I don't get why he didn't get any run all season. The topper was yesterday when nobody guarded anybody and guys looked worn down or defeated. A fresh off the bench guy, a guy who can defend forwards and guards, could have helped. Somebody like Watson comes to mind.

Williams and Blum are doing a podcast today. I hope they touch on any insight on Watson.
Number 2, they were WAY quicker than us. Watson has the speed to have kept up. No idea why he didnt at least get a look.

I don't mean 9 or 10 the whole game every game. But play the 9th and maybe the 10th guy here in there all season. Maybe 7-8 minutes a game. Maybe a little more depending on the situation. Not just the first couple of pay games against the Miss Valley States. Watson would've made it a 9 man rotation. He was good enough to play in every game this season.

Like I always, fans don’t know ****. We don’t know **** about injuries, we don’t know **** about schoolwork, we don’t know **** about who shows up late, who stays late, we just don’t know anything. But the obvious answer is that if a team wants to max out then they need to play together. In basketball there is no limit to the potential of team chemistry and drill. The more a team does something, the better they should get at it. This isn’t the NBA with 48 minute games, 82 games in a season and then the playoffs are series and you need to micro-manage minutes.

Playing Watson 8 minutes a game doesn’t really help Tamin or Keshon. Can’t just blow everything up and take hits on the chance of someone getting injured at some point in time. When Milan went down, Watson played more. I just don’t know what people want. There’s only so much a team can do before you just have to ride until you fall off while hoping you never fall off.

you 1000% are doing enough. But whining about the money asks is getting old from everyone. Would you honestly rather the alternative of us not having a payroll?
There's a massive difference between "donate to the school you love" vs "if you don't donate the world is going to end." Guess which one is the majority of comments about the NIL?

14 pages asking if this was a disappointing season, its not asking why it was a disappointing season, that is a totally different question. Take a look at two in-state teams.

Drake lost its coach and was returning no one from a team that won their league last year. The new coach comes in, bringing four starters from his old school and then not only wins 30 games, but both the regular season title and the conference championship titles, has the conference player of the year. They win a game in the tournament before losing their second game to a lower seed. Drake blew away the expectations on the year, it was a 9 out of 10, the only thing that could have made it better was getting to the sweet 16.

ISU started the year ranked in the top 10, was returning 3 starting guards and one of the best 6th man in the nation. They only had to replace their two bigs and add depth. One of the new bigs became one of our best players, the other was at least equal to the players they replaced. Hard to gauge the other two as they were up and down, the entire season. This team was ranked most of the season, got to has high as #2 in the rankings and ended up 5th in the conference, lost in the quarter finals round of the tournament and while getting a #3 seed in the dance, lost to a higher seeded team in the 2nd round. That just screams disappointing season, from where we started the season to where we ended up. How we got there is a totally different question, but no one sitting here today would have said to themselves back in November, I would take the season we just had.

Something in this team broke when that 50 footer dropped in Tucson.
I wonder if it was the same thing as when our 20? FB team (year after the fiesta) lost the first conference game. They came back to play in the playoffs and it was all a no go at that point. Losing to AZ that day, pretty much sealed the conference from us and put doubt into them.

all fair - if we field winless teams with a $0 payroll, I'm sure you'd be complaining even louder. Sometimes you've gotta pick your poison my man

Wait until a Boone Pickens type guy has a billion for his school... Well never compete.

NCAA needs schools to pay and sign contracts, like every other sports league. I don't recall the Vikings it Twins asking me to donate to players

From what my eyes can see, when Mialn gets early touches and sees the ball go thru the net, he almost always has a great night.. When he misses his first one or two shots, he struggles the entire game

I'd like to see an emphasis on him getting easy looks early in games so that his confidence is high.

ISU lost only once this year where Milan shot over 41% from 3 (Auburn), only two losses when he shot 40% or better (Auburn and BYU-home)

I thought we played really well in Arizona, considering the home crowd was insane. What broke the team after that was the turnovers and lack of a fast break. Seemed like we had 3 on 1 fast break 2 or 3 times and screwed it up. Other games after that we were rarely did a fast break. Lack of fast break brought in the half court slog fest which resulted in Gilbert trying to drive through 3 guys and others doing too much.

On a positive, Heise came around and was playing his best ball at the end.

They can't do that without an anti-trust exemption and collective bargaining.

My post mortem take is this bball season is rather comparable to the 2021 fb season. Sky high expections/ ranked high early. Some good / fun wins but never had it all click, especially when it mattered most. Final result well short of expectations.

Heise really did play well down the stretch. 3-3 from 3 last game. His problem has always been he doesn't shoot enough :)

Allowing the players to unionize is going to have to be part of the agreement. But rules have to be put into place, because this Wild West attitude is to going to be going on forever. I would think that after the $20 million per school starts rolling out, then conferences or schools will turn to NIL to determine just what role they will have going forward. The playing field needs to be leveled and every school needs to know the rules.

Like I said, that’s the way things are so either accept it or get ready for some god awful teams playing for free
