Some people here will think this is a good thing. I don't.

I don’t think he leaves if 5 years ago

In the salary era, it’s probably best for both sides

He’ll get offered more than we can justify paying for a 20 minute/gm center

Maybe we take a small step back on offense, but another Rob Jones type would make us better overall and save money

Not surprised.

Jackson won't be playing in the NBA and I'm not even sure he would play much overseas. So his opportunity to earn major bucks closes after next season. If he can earn a few hundred thousand more somewhere else, it's not a bad move.

Also, being on the ISU roster is not at all easy. He may have been less than excited about another grueling summer/fall.

Cluff would help our offensive wheels turn better obviously. It kind of bugged me that Dishon was never used to make space for Jefferson. They played kind of a slow and clunky, close together two man game that worked every so often.

Disappointed to see “Big Dawg” go. Guys with his size and strength don’t grow on trees and it never hurts to have enough big guys to defend in the post. Seems like a guy of his build with his post scoring ability was something the cyclones were missing many years. But I get it. He wasn’t quite as mobile as needed for defending the perimeter and may be a better fit elsewhere. Best of luck, Dishon!

Jefferson can and likely should play about 1/3 of his minutes (or more) at the 5. VERY few teams have a 5 whom Jefferson cannot guard.

Whoever TJ recruits at the 5, better be an insane rebounder and defender, or a above average shooter who can really stretch a defense
Agree with most of what you say about Jefferson's ability to play some 5.

Jefferson was coming off knee surgery his first summer in Ames. So I expect him to work on his body this offseason and we see a quicker & stronger Jefferson next fall. Also he will seriously work on his 3 point shot to develop into point/stretch 4 reminiscent of Georges.

Add to that I expect Milan to do the same thing. Work his butt off in the weight room to develop a grown-man body. So he can play the 3/4 spots

That should allow TJ & staff to add a couple portal posts that fit ISU's defensive scheme along the lines of: Big Rob, Ward and Osunniyi. So a talented offensive player would be great, but the 2nd guy can be a rebounding machine/garbage man around the basket.

Kayden Fish also leaving per the DSM Register. I guess that is where the 'we need 3 post players' was coming from. But I didn't know about Fish untili right now. Ugg. I wanted to see him stay and get better.
Fish didn’t have a future here unfortunately. He transferred out last year too and didn’t get too much interest and we took him back with an open scholly. Wish him well of course but he likely isn’t a P5 player currently.

It was like watching 90’s basketball at times.

He’s not bad on offense, defense, or rebounding. I like Jackson because he’s a nice floor outcome

But he is not money ball. Although Cluff isn’t either.

He doesn’t look like he’d play much at a mid major either. He’s best suited for a low major.

I dunno, I just liked the guy's energy.

This drove me nuts in the Ole Miss Game-
Down 11 at half.
Second Half-
1st posession: Jackson buried his defender, made layup
2nd posession: Jackson buried his defender, finger roll +2

Now Down 7-
3rd posession, ISU TO
4th- ISU TO
5th-7th Chuck 3s

Ole Miss pushed the lead to about 15.

Maybe not exactly what happened,
But, FEED THE DAMN BIG, who was making his defender look like a HS soph.....
He picked up a 3rd foul somewhere in this sequence as well, right?

Just a clone of senior year Hasan Ward would be my #1 want right now. Did we have a single alley pop this year? We have to get more athletic imo. We were two years too late on the “gotta be huge in the post” trend.

We wouldn't commit to it for some reason - maybe because it reminded too many of "90s basketball", lol. Think DJ was subbed out pretty quickly after his 2 buckets because, we just do, but he was having a difficult time guarding Brakefield away from the basket.

Sad to see him go, but I get it. I think if he keeps applying himself Dishon will get better - which would happen in Ames, but maybe he can get a bigger bag & more minutes & production elsewhere, so honestly best of luck to him.

Thank you Jackson for all the high energy plays. Always started games very strong and set a physical tone for the game

And along with all the other players who are entering the portal, best wishes to find a home where you will thrive.

I like William Kyle but sounds like that’s not happening

Our dunks stats are behind some small-ball Hoiberg teams. At times we were big without getting the benefits from having size, but getting the downsides

I don’t really blame Jackson. He was about the only one that could go get the ball, dunk etc. He can help a winning P5 if they have passers to let him finish, or stretch 4s so he can live in the paint without blockading

IMO there is a reason why Hoiberg went small ball, and the NBA no longer has two brutes on offense at 4/5. You get more basketball ability on the court with guards and forwards.

If Dishon could’ve been his “good” version all the time, we would probably be fighting harder to keep him. He had plenty of great moments but they were too few and far in between. I’m thankful for his contributions and hope he lands somewhere he can be a little more successful!

Also just for put backs. There were many times this year we got a rebound but Chat and Jackson were not explosive enough to just dunk the put back or grab the board immediately bounce up and slam it. It would take too long and get blocked or be a tougher shot
