He doesn’t look like he’d play much at a mid major either. He’s best suited for a low major.
I never understood the signing of Fish, I guess they were hoping for some physical projection to eventually translate to court value? He is a big body after all. IIRC he was a marginal 3-star out of KC and not recruited by the other nearby P5 schools. I'm also thinking D-II level for Fish. He has no tape other than from HS.

Jackson played at Washington State for two years - averaged about 7 points and 4 rebounds. Then sat out one year for "undisclosed medical reasons".

Then beginning in 2023:

On 3/23 - decommits from WSU by entering the portal
33 days later on 4/26 he commits to Charlotte
51 days later on 6/17 he decommitted from Charlotte
2 days later on 6/19 he commits to Texas Tech
7 days later on 6/26 he decommitted from Texas Tech
That same day on 6/26 he commits to Charlotte again
Then played a season and then decommitted from Charlotte and went portal
Then committed to ISU and played a year
Then decommitted from ISU and went portal (I guess he has his covid year left)

So in just two years since March, 2023 he basically has decommitted, committed, decommitted, committed, decommitted, committed, decommitted, committed and now decommitted.

This just shows how ludicrous the portal has become. These kids have more rights and freedom than the pros do.

Maybe it was a package deal with Omaha

This is a really dumb question so please forgive me but when a player enters the transfer portal, do they have to finish out that semester at that school? Is their athletic scholarship prorated? These are the things I am curious about lol

Bit surprised but good luck Dishon Jackson.

I'm not surprised but not happy to see him go either. I was hoping he would stick around and at least compete for the starting position. Would have loved it if we upgraded at the position but had our former starter as a back up. Replacing all three of our 5s in the offseason is a big deal.

I like parts of Dishon's game for sure. He is a big strong player and can bully undersized 5's. He has some post moves, can rim protect and rebound a little, can hit FTs. I'd welcome him back if he doesn't get the bag he's looking for. Honestly, what drove me crazy is the hands. He fumbled sooo many balls out of bounds. If he could clean that up, he'd be HM all conference at minimum...wherever he ended up. Also, he's not really very good at guarding the high ball screen or on switches. Maybe he needs to go to more of a zone team where he's not exposed as often. But, when you look at our losses, many were when the opposing big hit a bunch of 3's. WV, OSU, OM. Or when teams put him in switches to get open 3's off of ball screens like BYU did.

Personally, I feel like Jefferson can guard most 5's at this level. Obviously, you need some more size for playing against teams with more bulk. But if I were to build the roster (and I'm no expert), I would go Jefferson at the 5, Momcilivic at the 4, Heise at the 3. You really don't lose much rebounding-wise from what we had this year and you're able to switch MUCH easier. Plus, you have 5 guys who can hit the outside shot. Then, you backfill with a Chatfield type at the 5 and find another 4 to back up Momcilivic. And obviously you'd need a high level SG to make it all work.

Not sure how I want to feel about this one. It felt like DJ got lost at times early in Big-12 play, but really got things going down the stretch. I can understand making this type of move if he wants to make some money and be more of a go too guy at his next stop. Obviously they all have different rolls, but you have to think that Milan an Jefferson coming back may have played a part in the decision.

This drove me nuts in the Ole Miss Game-
Down 11 at half.
Second Half-
1st posession: Jackson buried his defender, made layup
2nd posession: Jackson buried his defender, finger roll +2

Now Down 7-
3rd posession, ISU TO
4th- ISU TO
5th-7th Chuck 3s

Ole Miss pushed the lead to about 15.

Maybe not exactly what happened,
But, FEED THE DAMN BIG, who was making his defender look like a HS soph.....
This was probably my biggest frustration (among many!) this year. You know a guy as big as DJ wasn't going to be a "super athletic" type; if you get a guy that big who's super-athletic, you've got Shaq or at least a budget version of him. DJ's advantage was his sheer size, and when we had a clear mismatch there numerous times this year, we didn't often take good advantage of it.

I don’t think he leaves if 5 years ago

In the salary era, it’s probably best for both sides

He’ll get offered more than we can justify paying for a 20 minute/gm center

Maybe we take a small step back on offense, but another Rob Jones type would make us better overall and save money
It would have to be a year-3 Rob Jones or it wouldn't be much of an improvement, IMO.

That was the end of his time here.

Blum said on the podcast this morning that a guy like Dishon can get close to $ a million in this portal. ~Zero chance someone sticks around at ISU to maybe be the back up center in that kind of market.

If you want to stay a top 16ish seed team this has to happen.

We will do that even with all new "bigs".

I wouldn't hold my breath, but I also wouldn't completely rule out him coming back. It feels like a two way street of him seeing what opportunities are out there and Iowa St. seeing what new post players they can bring in. Some high major school might offer Dishon seven figures and he is gone or a lot of schools with big budgets might see the same limitations we have and view him more as a post depth piece. On the flip side we might bring in a guy like Cluff and find a second guy they like or we might be sitting here in a week or two needing a second post still.

I would have liked to see Jackson after an offseason working with Kyle Green. Oh well, best of luck.
Jackson is who he is - he is not making any big strides in the off season, what you got from him this year is what you will get next year which is why TJ and staff don't value him as high as the market will.

We must have a lot more NIL resources than I thought because that means our other players must be getting at least $5m collectively let alone how much football needs too. Great job by Blum to organize and spearhead WeWill.

IIRC he played AAU with Billiew and when the staff saw him in person they thought he had the size and IQ to develop into a good role player

My first guess is Jackson ends up at a lower half B1G/$EC program that will over pay him and have minutes available on what will end up being a bubble team at best. Minnesota, South Carolina, or something like that
