I was looking at the worthlesss stats of Rhoads being undefeated at night and Utah with Whittingham being undefeated after a bye week.

digging deeper...they have played poor competition and even more glaring is even thought they have won, it looks (looking at scores) as though they played poorly in away games.

2009-Played 3-9 Colorado St on the road and only won 24-17
2008-Played 4-8 New Mexico on the road and won 13-10. Keep in mind they finished 13-0
2007-Played 5-7 Wyoming at home and won 40-7.
2006-Played 4-8 Colorado ST at home and won 35-22
2005-Played 4-7 Wyoming at home and wone 43-13
2004-Played 6-6 North Carolina at home and won 46-16

To me the most interesting thing to look at is the two times they went on the road, they beat very poor teams by a TD or less.

I guess Iam looking for something to hang our hat on. I think Utah is a very solid team and we will need some help beating them.

Nice work, I get the point but I don't think its a very telling stat to be honest. Good teams tend to look past their cupcake opponents even after the bye week. The cupcake teams that are playing them, on the other hand, work extra hard to give them a scare. I am not saying Iowa State is a cupcake team, I think Utah will still win in a blowout fashion in Ames but I hope I am wrong!!!

For whatever it's worth, Utah traditionally struggled against New Mexico while Rocky Long was the coach. He schemed a defense that constantly gave us fits, and playing them was a game that made Utah fans nervous every single year. In fact, New Mexico has beaten Utah 4 times since 2002, which is more than any other MWC team. Things obviously went straight downhill when Long was fired in 2008, but he was a constant thorn in our side while he was there.

As to the other road game vs. Colorado State, that's exactly what we've been saying about Utah playing down to inferior competition last year. Thankfully we haven't seen that this year, which is why we're all pretty optimistic about how good this team is...even though we've played really bad teams.

Saturday's game will tell us a lot about both squads.
