Hey fanatics,

Being the curious type, I was wondering what kind of job satisfaction CFers have. Lately, I've been regretting not getting my MD. I'm 24 and work in a health care profession, and I can't help but think that I know I could be a good MD. It feels too late. Does anyone else have similar regrets?

Working at American Home Shield in Carroll for the summer, I hate it, but love the other Summer Temps I work with. 5 more weeks and I move back to Ames....Can't come soon enough!

You're crazy. You're only 24! Go to Med School or you'll regret it for sixty years.

I don't love my actual job per se (I'm a civilian technical writer for the Army), but I love that my job directly helps our soldiers and Marines. While I would prefer to be in a different job series (particularly logistics management), even if I remained a technical writer for the next 30+ years I feel my job would have been totally worth it.

I was thinking the same thing. Haven't you really only lost 2-3 years had you done this sooner? Still not too late.

I like elements of my job a lot but it is not something I see myself doing for the long haul. I don't regret doing it because of the experience I have gained and I have a better idea of what I want to do.

You're not too late for med school. In 10 years with 2 kids, a wife and a mortgage, you'll be too late.

Love my job.
Hate the location.
If I lived closer to my friends, family, and Ames with the same job, I'd be in Heaven.

Are you nuts? I was 26 when went to ISU and graduated when I was 30. Best decision I ever made. I also know someone who got their MD when they were in their late 30's with 4 kids. It is never too late to do something you enjoy. Don't just get a job, get a career. You will never regret it.

Thanks for all the supportive thoughts. I'm a lady, and I finished my master's in a career that I thought would be fulfilling. I'm not so sure now. Med school costs money, and I'd like to start a family eventually, which is hard to do when you're in school/residency. Plus, there would be a lot to do, like take the MCAT and get more volunteering experience, that would make starting med school at least a couple years down the road. I have a boyfriend that I've been with for three years, and he isn't very mobile (still in school).

Ugh. I guess I was hoping that more people would say they have regrets! :spinny:

Plenty of us have regrets but the point is that it's not too late for you to take action to eliminate regrets from your future. However balancing med school/residency and starting a family would be hard. What about pharmacy school? That could be a midpoint that allows you to have it all.

Summer job working for the local pioneer rep in my hometown. I hate that he sits on his butt while I do all of the labor all day long but I love that it may open up a big opportunity for me to hopefully run this business in the future.

Sounds like Le Cordon Bleu culinary school would be perfect for you.

That's a place where dreams are fulfilled and regrets forgotten
