Kind of similar to the Obscure Music Selection thread, but I had a conversation with my wife about this last night and was curious what CF thought.

Do you listen to music in another language and why?

Personally, I listen to Jpop & Jrap and German Heavy metal mostly. I tend to focus more on the beat / tempo of the song or I am attracted to the singer's voice.

I listen to Rock Nacional from Argentina. Why? Because I've studied their twice in high school and college. Love me some Molotov, Juanes and Mana too.

My wife listens to a lot of Edith Piaf and I've come to appreciate her.
She is the French chick that you hear singing in EVERY World War 2 movie you have seen that takes place in Europe.

I tend to listen to the bi-lingual bands (Ill Nino, Soulfly) or major bands in other languages (Sigur Ros, Rammstein), but that's about it.

Sometimes Pearl Jam comes on Pandora and I can't understand a god damn thing he says, so I assume it's Greek or something, so I'll say yes.

I have been a big Rammstein fan for a number of years. My son and I went to their concert in Minneapolis last May. Great music (in any language) is worth listening to.

yes - but usually because I'm listening to old stuff from my or my husband's songs from college choirs, operaish stuff or Celtic Women. But I usually still know the words so I don't feel like that counts.

I listen to Amadou and Mariam. A group from Mali. If I were to listen to a song in a foreign language, it would probably be something from Africa.

Rammstein is awesome.

I also have a couple Sigur Ros (Icelandic band) albums that come on now and again.

I listen to SIgur Ros a lot also. Will be going to their concert in St. Paul in April. Also listen to Radio Reykjavik occassionally. A lot of good music coming out of Iceland.

My wife is German so I've acquired the taste of a couple of German punk bands like Die Toten Hosen and The Inchtabokatables. They both have a couple of English songs, but the vast majority of it is German.

Not since some drive time show guys used to play this here in the '80s. Totally madeup language by some guys from ABBA goofing off but always got me smiling. I have waited in vain for a cover of the tune by the muppets Swedish Chef.

Seu Jorge's Portuguese covers of David Bowie songs from A Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou are awesome.

I also occasionally listen to a band that's referred to as the Mexican Beastie Boys called Plastilina Mosh. Their Aqua Mosh album is pretty decent.

I have quite a few cd's in another language. When my cousin found out that I liked this she bought me a CD of Queen that is done by Spanish speaking artists...very cool. Molotov is in there and I love their music. Also Soraya (RIP) is very intriguing.

Here are two of her songs. One is Spanish and the other in English (For Breast Cancer Awareness)
