Does Anyone Else Just Not Really Watch the Games Anymore?

It’s weird seeing most of Cyclone faithful this way. I used to be obsessed with ISU basketball. Now I won’t even turn the game on when I’m at home with nothing else to do. I just feel zero excitement towards the program. Such a weird feeling for someone who would sit an day dream of a final four run.

I'm in the same boat as many of the posters here. I think the last full game I watched this season was against Iowa, and we all know how that turned out. If it's convenient to watch and I don't have other things going on, I'll tune in, but it's not the priority it used to be.

It really sucks to have this level of apathy, but that's just where things have gotten. I'm normally a big college basketball fan as well, but just haven't been able to care this year when my own team is so bad. On the bright side, I've filled my Saturdays with a lot of fun things this year that I may have otherwise skipped so I could watch the Cyclones.

I watch every game but just have zero expectations. I have been watching a lot more NBA the last year and it’s hard to watch the college game after getting used to the NBA

FAMU last year was the end for me. I still watched quite a few games after, but the passion was gone. The embarrassing home losses have just become too much for me. SDSU this year was more of the same. I listened to that and spent most of the game shaking my head. I probably watched 5 minutes of the Iowa game, and 15 at WVU. I think I might have watched a little at OU...was that on ESPN? I'm not even listening to John and Eric anymore. It's just too depressing. As I said in one of the other 27 threads on this subject, ISU bball has been appointment viewing/listening for me for over 30 years and I can no longer tell you when or who we play. If I'm not on social media, I've had games completely pass me by without even knowing they occurred.

I feel terrible for the players. They chose to play for Iowa State but due to a lot of factors they're not getting anywhere near the experience they signed on for. I pulled hard for Prohm, but I no longer feel sorry for him. The guy has made life changing money for 6 years and he'll get a fat check on his way out for completely running this program into the ground. I don't care how good a guy he is anymore and I don't care whether his wife loves or hates Ames.

We'll hang with (most likely) Oky State for awhile before turning the ball over or missing shots on 17 of our last 19 possessions and scoring 5 points the last 9 minutes on Wednesday night in KC. That will end the worst season the majority of us can remember and very possibly the worst in ISU bball history. Pollard can jump on the bus and spend 3 hours telling Prohm what a great guy he is, but by the time they park in the Sukup lot, the words "it's over" better have been said. The buyout, whatever it is and however it's structured, is going to hurt us financially but Pollard made that bed and he'll have to sleep in it. I don't expect perfection from anyone, but for the life of me, I'll never understand that contract extension.

I live in the Eastern Time Zone and some nighttime games would start at 9:00 so I would record them and watch the next day. Now, I don't record them and no longer arrange my schedule to watch live ISU basketball.

I was at ISU in the mid to late '70's and remember letting fans in Hilton for free after half-time. It's sad that the apathy in those days has returned.

My hope is that the kids who are competing and going to school under these never before seen circumstances will move on from ISU to become outstanding representatives of our school and reach their potential.

I've watched none. Mostly because I can't watch hoops without fans. I saw about 2 minutes of an early college game and I took a pass on the season. If we were good I probably would have watched some but that never happened and I'll never know. I won't watch the NCAA tournament either. I know nothing about any of the teams.

I saw Iowa State was 24 point dogs against Baylor and thought “I bet Chizik and the boys get a late field goal to cover”. Then I realized it wasn’t 2009 and wasn’t football.

24 points is the largest spread I can remember

Back when Johnny was the coach, I'd drive three miles on eastern Iowa rural roads during subzero January deep-freezes to find an a.m. signal to catch the games. Sometimes, I'd connect a radio antenna to the cold-air-return ductwork, in an attempt to hear the game. Yeah, I used to love ISU basketball. Haven't watched a game this year. Last year showed me all I need to see. Done till Prohm is replaced.

I've watched every game. Your either a Cyclone fan or your not. You don't get to pick and choose.

If watching bad basketball is the definition, then, nope, I'm not a fan. Didn't watch it when Lynn Nance was the coach, either. And yeah, I picked and chose.

I watched games when the season started, but lately have seen probably less than half of them.

It’s such bad basketball that I can’t stomach it anymore. Our players have no clue what they’re doing and lack even the basic fundamentals that are required to play winning basketball.

It’s not only painful to see ISU basketball like this.... it’s sad. Our once proud and competitive program is in shambles and I just can’t watch much of it anymore.

For the most part, I've had the games on TV if I didn't have anything else going on. However, I've been distracted much easier watching games over the past few years.

Haven't seen a game since last year. I honestly couldn't tell you the roster this year. I've never really liked the CSP hire so this year just sealed it.

I still keep it on.
Some awkward hope in me to see the young guys now and hope to look back when they are upper classmen and see them as the group that said this is enough.

But that being said, it doesn't have my full attention like it usually did in the past. I am much more likely to be working on projects for work while the game is on. Not like in the past where I would kick someone out of the house if they interrupted my viewing.

I watch as many games as I always have. I feel bad for the players going out and losing every nigh, but I still cheer for them.

I also watched the Cubs lose for 20 years before they were decent. We have also watched or been to almost every Royals game for the last 15 years and they have had 3 seasons above .500.

Some fans are just built different.

Cyclone for life.

I will watch bad teams as long as it's enjoyable I've been a cubs fans for life and there have been some bad teams that I still watched.

This. I was a Cyclone Alley member during the McDermott era, and I stopped watching regularly last year when it was clear that Steve had no idea how to actually coach beyond recruiting. I was frustrated by the wasted end of 2018-2019 season, and last season crystallized that things wouldn't get better until he was gone.

The 2018-2019 season ties this year for the most disappointing one. That team had the talent to win the regular season title, and make a deep March run. Instead they finished .500 in the league, got bounced in the first round by a double digit seed, and if it weren't for 3 great days in March, would have been a quasi disaster.

That season soured me a lot on Prohm as an ego manager and tactician, and the last 2 seasons have been just complete disasters on all fronts.

I have watched every game except one. I didn't know they were playing during the day a few weeks ago. I tink it was Okie state.

This matchup predictor tells you everything you need to know. I don't think I've ever seen a Power 5 game this lobsided.
