Does anyone worry when we get a big lead we will give it up ? I remember watching Floyd and Eustachy Coach and never got worried if we would be down by 10. Now I worry when we are up by 20.:skeptical:

Last night I was mildly worried when Drake hacked away at the lead. But our guys weren't phased and buried it. I'm sure we won't see last minute leads slip away like we did under Morgan:skeptical:

I've worried about that in both football and basketball for many years. I've seen way too many comebacks to ever say the game is over before the clock hits zeros no matter how big of a lead we have.

I still have the game at OU on tape where Wayne's team gave up a 7 point lead in the last minute or so of the game. It was so surreal that I knew I had to keep the recording I made of it. I remember watching Wayne just sit on the bench the whole time with that shell-shocked look on his face.

I was waiting for Mac to call a timeout when Drake started to come back early on in the second half (I think they scored around 7-9 unanswered), but he let the team play it out and sure enough they bounced back until the media timeout. I think Mac realizes how special our team is and just wants to watch them figure things out on their own. Now, if he does that when we start getting into the tougher non-con games and conference play I'll probably be a little ticked off, but with the amount of play-makers we have I'm not as worried if ISU goes into a scoring drought as our team has done in the past.

Honestly, a 20 point lead for either Floyd or Eustachy was a much bigger lead in reality, because they were grind it out, win ugly coaches, who valued defense above all else. And a 20 point lead against a quality opponent was also somewhat rare, if I recall correctly.

As a longtime Cyclone fan, I never celebrate until the final buzzer.

Yes, only because it's been YEARS since we've fielded a team that looked and felt like they could control a game...and not just be trying to pull an upset.

No lead is ever safe in college basketball, but I don't expect McD to get out-coached very often.

I think if last night showed anything it's that we can move the ball and get good shots when we need to. If you play your cards right and don't do anything stupid, a 10 point lead goes a long way in college with a 35 second shot clock.

Some people were almost to the brink of calling for GMac's head last night on the game thread when Drake went on their 7-9 point run. Funny thing.. We were still up by 14-16 points at the time.

Some people sounded like we had we down by 20 points.

Thinking about it... I would rather have people melting down when we are up by 14 then down by 20 like last year.

When we have a good team I worry from tipoff to final buzzer. The last 2 years I didn't because I knew we weren't playing for anything. I like being worried.

I've ALWAYS worried about leads and giving them up. I'm famous in my group of friends to start muttering, 'there's too much time left, there's too much time left' with any sort of lead. On Tuesday, I didn't relax until 5 minutes left in the game.

As for you, I would assume that if this team proves that they will continue to win, you will start feeling good when we are up by 10 just like with Tim and Larry.

It will be interesting to see what happens when we are in a close game this year. I liked how the team responded to a mini-run by Drake, but I want to see what happens when we are losing or a team closes to within 5 or so. The last few years, we've ran out of gas, it seems. So I think these guys need to learn how to win. They'll do it.

We're Iowa State, I'm always worried. But I'll worry a lot less this year. I may even be confident that we can come back and win if we find ourselves behind late in games.

4 years of crappy basketball will cause to worry whenever you have a lead

Am not worried. His games this year have been well managed. If the point difference is dwindling, I would venture to say its from his rotation of the bench. He feels comfort in the lead and flow of the game so he digs deep to build experience. If its a game against a really tough opponent, I dont see him going deep on the bench.

This.

I've only seen the Drake game. I was "worried" when they made that run and got it down to 13 or so. But at the same time I wasn't upset with our play - which hasn't been the case in past years.

MOST of the time, they Drake shooter was covered pretty well. It wasn't so much a lapse of defense, as it was the guy just hit a great shot.

And as stated elsewhere - our guys are more mature, more seasoned and confident - and went down, pounded it into CB or moved the ball and found Lucca or Christopherson. Our ability to respond and not panic seems greatly improved this year (so far)

Yeah TF/LE had teams that applied a lot of defensive pressure, so I wasn't ever concered when we were up. GM worries me a little, but I wasn't overly concerned against Drake. The athleticism we've been sorely missing in the backcourt isn't really a problem anymore, so as long as they can get the pressure I won't be worried if we're up by 20. Chris Colvin looks like he could be a real defensive force in the future.
