Does HCMC need a OC to call plays?

No doubt Campbell is a great HC and will probably set records at ISU but it's a tall task to call plays from the sideline and do all the other tasks a HC has to handle.

Unless Iowa has the best defense in the NCAA there are significant problems with the offense. Perhaps Campbell should provide input to the OC while the OC actually calls the plays.

CMC called the plays last year too

One of the questions I have; was he getting the correct information in order to make the right play calls? I am not sure what the ratio is, but it seems most offensive coordinators are in the box when calling plays. So I wonder if the people in the box were seeing and analyzing the Iowa defense appropriately giving Campbell the correct information he needed to make the correct play calls.

I don't know who they have up in the box besides Gasser this year but Gasser helps call plays up there again this year just like he did last year with Manning. Not sure if Myers is up there too or what

No. For the defense Iowa was playing he didn’t call a bad game. They had numbers to run down the middle all game. You have to at least try. One breakout run could have taken the lead at any point but the fact that did didn’t doesn’t mean the play calls were poor.

Doesn't matter. Unless this season ends up being a train wreck beyond train wrecks or he really finds someone he trusts, I don't see it changing. Or really see the need too.

Based on the Iowa game, Yes! I think he had a good plan at the start of the game, and he was trying to do what was logical, running against a 4-5 man box, but he needed to come up with something else in the passing game to get the ball moving. Having a guy dedicated to calling the offensive plays, and making adjustment would have probably given ISU better results last Saturday. He just had too much on his plate. The timing of Manning's move was very bad.

The OL complete sucking sure didn't give him a ton of options. QB and WR play was not great either.

IF he does it's too late to do anything about it now. The time to find an OC he trusted to call plays was last spring. I don't know who else on staff would be a better option.

Having said that, I want to see at least a couple more games before we jump to any conclusions about Campbell's ability to handle head coaching and playcalling duties.

Maybe he needs the O-line to play as a unit and protect/get a push.
To be a good offense, sure.
To score more than 3 points, nope.

To be better than what we’ve watch for most of the games since there’s been tape on our offense under Kempt, also no.

I thought the worst play calls MC had against Iowa were he let Iowa sack Kempt and get pressure on him and the calls where there were offensive penalties. I don't know he was thinking with those.
