Lost in the whining was Dustin's game last night. Man was he good. If he continues to shoot the 3 ball like he has lately we are going to be tough to beat with him at the 3 position.

It seems like we are so close. Hogue put together a great game last night, McKay did on Saturday, Niang did last Monday. If everybody puts it together on the same night, this team has a ton of potential.

DHOGUEY WAS BEAST MODE.

Also did any see when Naz Long fell and it looked like neither Jameel or Niang offered to pick him up even though he had his hands out?

We are close. I like our lineup with Jameel in there a lot more. Oklahoma played extremely well last night.

We're close to turning the corner IMO

Looks to me like Dustin was thee only player on the floor that was playing any semblance of DEFENSE....

Dustin needs to have more of the team shots.

We either force the ball to McKay, we shoot the 30 foot hope, we do the spinning derbish from 25 feet away while the defense collapses. We have three things for people to defend. Then unleash the Hogue. He makes things happen around the bucket more. Hand out some more toothpicks and toughen up.

Plus we seem to whine a little too much after a call goes against us.

Really like the way he's played at ISU. Fred needs to pull more players out of IHCC.

Offense will never be our problem, Defense, Defense Defense. OU (Tashon Thomas) exploited Niang's poor man to man defense all night. Us doubling down to help Niang leaves shooters open.

Common denominator in all this is that we need to put Niang in a position where he can be successful in Defensive situations! If he is going to be the liability, then we need to crisp of our help rotations to hide these deficiencies. Another thing that I've noticed is that OU and KU both killed us from the perimeter with the "Weave" offense. Our guards are not fighting through the screens well enough, and when we do switch it isn't very efficient. If we can improve just these 2 areas, our defensive efficiency would improve immensely.

So are we going over or under the screens?

Way up there
Hogue has played well the last few games, what I wouldnt mind seeing is a little more aggressiveness on offense. He has shown he can handle the ball and take guys off the dribble. I'm sure a lot has to do with McKay taking away his mismatch. Last year Melvin would typically get the other teams 3 playing him and Hogue would get a bigger slower player. This year, McKay gets the big and Hogue is normally played by the 3.

Agreed. But Hogue played very well on Heild for the first 12-15 minutes. Once he left with foul trouble Heild got going.

Last night it sure looked like we were trying to fight under the screens most of the time, and it left us in some VERY bad positioning where the OU guards would just stop and pop. In addition I noticed that when they'd hand the ball off to the other 'Weaving' guard our defenders would slow each other down as they would both try to fight under the screen and it allowed for some easy penetration into the lane.

Easily the player of the game for the Cyclones last night. Didn't back down from taking the open 3 pointer.

I have always felt that more plays should be run for him and fewer for Niang (if he will let that happen)

I was glad to see Dustin on Hield last night. He did a nice job containing him. Unfortunately it seemed like everyone from OU had a good game last night.

And I love his shot selection. He basically only shoots 3s when wide open, and he is shooting a great %.

All that said, I think the team is better off with Dustin having 19 rebounds and 3 points, than the other way around.
