So I'm heavily considering making the move back to eastern Iowa.

I don't have a time frame in mind necessarily, I'm just looking for a good fit that will bring me home.

I'm curious if any of you are in HR roles in eastern Iowa. I have almost 5 years experience in transportation, warehousing, and brokerage and would be looking for either something in that industry or something that my skillset can be a compliment to.

Any tips, tricks, advice, or companies to look at that anyone either works for or knows of would be a great help as I start looking into the transition. I don't mind discussing in this thread or via PM.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Don't work at any of them, but CRST in cedar rapids or Heartland Express in North Liberty are large trucking companies. Don't know a whole lot about them, but Worley warehouse/logistics/distributing also looks like it might fit your experience. Also in cedar rapids. All 3 should be googleable

I appreciate the heads up guys. I'm familiar with CRST but had not considered Cargill or Heartland. I will definitely spend some time this week looking into them. Any resume tips to get mine to stand out should I find something I want to pursue?

Actually there are two Hummer Trucking Companies. Ron Hummer and Don Hummer. I think they would have an Williamsburg or Oxford address.

Be careful looking for the words "Hummer" and "Iowa City/Eastern Iowa" on Google. Could turn out bad for you. Make sure you leave Safe Search on.

You may want to look at the HON company in Muscatine.

I second the Heartland Express and CRST, if you are considering trucking companies. HON is also a good suggestion by another guy. A couple others you may want to consider is Kinze manufacturing, which is on I-80, outside of Williamsburg. They make grain carts. Also, there is Rockwell Collins (big defense contractor) in Cedar Rapids, which has a big supply sourcing/buying division for all their parts. And lastly, Maytag has a big plant where they make refrigerators in North Liberty, and I know they have parts buyers/sourcers there. Good luck bud.

Both of my parents worked at General Mills and my brother and I both put in summer work there. You may be able to find a warehouse position or even a team-leader position with your experience. You'll put in a lot of hours and work in a factory, however, the pay is good and the people were also great to work with.

Are you set on eastern Iowa? When I think Iowa based companies with with warehousing, transportation, and distribution, I think Casey's (which is probably Ankeny) and Hy-Vee (which is Chariton and Cherokee).

I'm going to throw a bit of a curve your direction. Currently the Red Cross in Waterloo is looking to hire a Mobile Unit Assistant. This is a transportation job involved with blood drives. There is a bit of warehousing involved and a fair amount of logistics. Typically the transportation is anywhere from Ames to Clinton generally following I-80 then North across that span to the Minnesota border.

John Deere in the Quad Cities is always an option as well. Their world headquarters as well as where they make their combines is there.

note that you love the 5 smells of CR?

My sister and her husband both work at Rockwell Collins, she said they are always looking for people. They really like the company.

echoing CRST. They're breaking ground for a large multi-story headquarters/building in downtown CR presently

Maytag's NL facility is only a warehouse, zero manufacturing. They very well could have buyers there, IDK, but Maytag is also now owned by whirlpool, and it's always wondered if/when these places will be closed. Amana built that warehouse, I'm not sure if it ever had Amana on it, as they were bought out by Maytag shortly thereafter. It still says Maytag, but their owned by Whirlpool.
