I can take or leave marching bands or pep band at sporting events. But to say they should be abolished because of Iowa's band allegations is twisted.

There should be an investigation into what happened to Iowa band members. I don't agree that this is part of the rivalry. Cruel behavior by ISU fans should not be minimized because the same thing happens to Cyclone band members in Iowa City. As my dad said growing up "Two wrongs don't make a right".

If the acts are true, finding the culprits is probably impossible- but the examples of deplorable behavior need to be publicized by both universities and leadership make sure the behavior won't be tolerated.

The Hawk vs Cyclone rivalry is great. Same as VEISHEA was an awesome event. But a few drunken idiots will destroy a great tradition.
No one is saying get rid if the band all together. Let them play their flutes at church for brunch.

Anyone who thinks school bands should be eliminated is a tool.

Music, in all forms, is probably the best thing we have in life..... period! And it's FAR from easy. I don't think many people understand what the ISU band members go through..... it is very demanding.... both mentally.... and physically.

I know someone that was in the ISU band and for them it was a 20 hour per week commitment during the football season when there wasn't a game.... but on game week you can add another 8-9 hours on game day on top of that 20 hours.

And then there are weeks they go and play at other events too..... like the night before the Iowa game they had to play at the Ames vs Iowa City High football game.... before, during, at halftime, and after the game. Getting home around 11 pm.... and then had to be down at Jack Trice at 5 a.m. the morning of the Iowa game to get ready for GameDay... and got home about 10 pm that night too thanks to the rain delays.

So F**K OFF to anyone putting down the band. My guess is there's no way you could have hacked it in college being in the band and going to school full time. So get a life!

F YOU!

Let me guess.... you're one of the ones that treated the Iowa band like s**t..... probably groping them too, right? You must be so proud.

Glad I wasn't drafted and forced to play in the marching band when I enrolled at Iowa State.

Alright... after reading through some of the posts on this thread, I no longer doubt that some really bad stuff probably happened to members of the Iowa band.

I thought ISU fans were better than this... but as you can clearly see... it's not the case.

If you can come on this message board and rip on band people and call them dorks and nerds and saying what they do is stupid, etc.... then there's no doubt some of these same people could very easily get themselves to throw things at band members, assault them, etc.... especially with several beers in them.

FIFY.

We marched hard- believe it or not, we partied harder.

You definitely didn't fix it for me. The point of my post is nobody is forcing kids to join band and have to put all those hours in clonedude mentioned. Plenty of us went to school full time and worked 30-40 hours a week.

Band director checking in --- Funny troll post. Band is a good thing. Be good to our visitors, including the band geeks. Also, shout out to all the band kids also doing sports. That is a huge commitment that very few have the drive to do. Finally, our ultimate goal is to end football and replace it with marching band competitions in the fall. We are legion.

I think we're all indebted to GunnerClone for clearly stating what needed to be said. I'm particulary glad that these lovely children were here today to hear that post. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age.

Y'all need to work on your troll detectors.
