Dont worry, I would NEVER move to Cali. Not a chance in hell. I really have no desire to visit the LA area at all. SD maybe, but LA not at all.

I know several people that have left Cali and they don't regret it. Most the LA area in particular.

But that's sort of a self-selecting group. There are plenty of people who have moved to the west coast and would never leave. And people are also going to have some choice-supportive bias when they've made the huge change to move somewhere else.

First one I had was Okie state around 90 or 91. Played to a 2 FGs each tie. It was warm too. We got our first first down in the third quarter and everyone went crazy.
U-G-L-Y!
2 Field Goals, 1 TD and a missed extra point.
Last tie game I saw in person.

I don’t want to be mean, apologies if I came off that way. Just for informational purposes, here are a few examples of how engrained the ocean/beach lifestyle is out here. A possible analogy, imagine if a place like Charlotte had a NASCAR event every Saturday and Sunday. NASCAR is engrained their DNA, the panthers better me damn good if they want to draw.

Typical day surfing one of hundreds of breaks:

Just the beach, no special event:

Hawaii and Miami might be on the same level. No other place that I can think of in the US.

Best time of my life and it isn't close. The opportunity, cool people, perfect weather, and so much to do that college football was barely on the radar.

I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but I ******* embraced that lifestyle and squeezed every bit of fun and learning that I could.

Dude, There is 12.5 Million people in the LA Metro alone. Of course a couple hundred thousand people could be on those beaches. That still leaves 12 Million people to do other things.

The point is the frickin place is huge. There is a lot of people of course places are going to be full of people.....well except football stadiums. they can barely get 50k in them.

Yeah you are right I have never been to LA beaches. From what I have been told the water is cold, and well they look way over crowded. I would rather go to a football game than that. I I would rather go to a football game than probably a lot of the activities that are popular in LA.

I have been to some beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, the Gulf Coast, the Atlantic, and even in the Great Lakes, All with beautiful WARM water. Some beautiful private beaches in the Caribbean too. Nothing better than private beaches with drink service.

I have also spent quite a bit of time in boats in Lakes and rivers both fishing and water sports/boating. That I know is out of reach of most people in the LA area.

Again Cali is really not my scene. There are places I want to see in Cali, Most being the North West, the National Parks, maybe the coastal Highway etc. As far as cities in Cali, I cant think of one that I really care to see. Maybe SD, but more for Coronado and the Naval Station, and maybe to take my kids to the Zoo.

I know to some, Cities are all that, and the bigger the better, but to some that really is not the case. Some people really do not think Cities are all that great. And once you get to a certain size they actually become undesirable rather than more desirable.

I think we agree that you just don’t get it. But please, use your absolute zero experience to explain it to somebody who has lived here for 25 years. I’d love to hear more.

No, I think you can't understand that not everyone thinks California is paradise, and that LA is the center of said paradise.

Some people have different tastes and opinions, and that is ok. Some people dont like Big Cities. Some people dont like crowded beaches. Some people even like beaches with Warm water.

I was told that Campbell was going to take the TCU job last year because the DFW area was so much better than the Ames area. Because no one in their right mind would rather live in a smaller town than a giant Metro like DFW. When I said not everyone wanted to live in giant metros I was told I was crazy, because so many live in them it proves that everyone wants to live in them. Because those that don't live there, it is of course not by choice, they must be being forced to live in the country or in small towns, or in Iowa, or Montana, rather than LA, or DFW, or NY. Because everything is so much better in those big cities.

But then one has to wonder if it is so much better in LA, why do people live in DFW, why do they live in San Fran, or NY. They must be forced to It cant be by choice. The guy with a backyard looking out to the Montana skyline, must be forced to live there because no way he wouldn't rather live in LA., there is just so much more to do there, all the farmers in Iowa that have been for generations are only living in Iowa because the are forced to, because there is no way they could like it, and no way they could not want to move to a big city instead.

You guys all are acting like anyone that doesnt think Cali is the greatest place on earth, is crazy. And that is just ridiculous. You are also acting like all 12.5 million people spend time on the beach every weekend during football season when the average Temp in LA is in the Mid 70s and the water temp is in the low 60s.

You are right I guess I don't get it. Maybe you don't either.

I never said it was for everybody. You have spent an inordinate amount of words telling me what the beach means to Southern California and how that impacts our sports watching habits. You are dead wrong and now trying to change the subject. I don’t mind somebody being wrong but when you admit that you have zero experience and continue try to tell me, literally an expert on the subject, what’s what then I’ve had enough. Good night and hello ignore list.

Wait, Im saying the beach is the excuse? Im describing the beach? You just posted a half dozen pics and described the beach and beach culture.

You and the others have been telling me how much the beach life is what makes life so important and Why no one goes to CFB games there. That was not what I said. That is what I was told was the excuse by several here.

Im pretty sure I have said the same thing from the start, not changed the subject at all. But you did come in in mid/conversation so maybe you missed the initial topic. This started by people saying LA people didnt go to or watch CFB games Because their is just so much more to do their than anywhere else in the USA, and there is a Beach there, unlike anywhere else. I say that is just an excuse, an exaggeration, or even untrue, and people find things to do wherever they are. Relative to the number of people there is not necessarily more things to do there vs anywhere else. And even with that, if that was the case that is probably not a good thing to brag about when it comes to realignment and media negotiations, when fan support and engagement is important.

I am pretty sure I didnt say I was an expert nor described LA other than average temp during football season and population, which is readily available on the interweb. And I just said it is not for everyone, and some people have a hard time believing that and when someone dares say that California is not a dream location some people freak out and have to explain just how wrong and small minded you must be for not wanting to live in Cali or a giant Metro like LA.

Maybe you and I are misunderstanding each other, who knows. But I have to call it a night, I am going to the game tomorrow.

Cali and Florida weather is different. So cal is pleasant all year. Florida gets super hot and muggy and seems to rain every afternoon for a bit.

Go check the latitude of parts of Florida vs Cali. Florida is quite a bit farther south when it seems like they should be about equal.

There's your fun fact for the day.

Yep. Miami is approximately 500 miles further south than San Diego.

Whats that old saying?
"Perseverence is only a virtue if you're right?" Something like that.
