I think Iowa State plays a large role in picking the time, and we might even have full control over it, if it's on ESPN+.

JP has said before that these early afternoon times are preferred by the athletic department. 11:00 AM is an early morning and cuts into tailgating, and later in the day keeps staff members around until dark for post-game stuff (and I suspect an unstated reason is that later games have more police activity for publicly drunk frat boys).

I hope the Athletic Department doesn't schedule football games for the convenience of staff.

I'm just happy to see that they will be at the stadium. You could have the best announcers in the world but if they do it remote it's terrible.
Having announcers do games remotely is the worst. They don’t get a feel for the game, the crowd, the weather, and they can’t see anything that’s not shown on a camera.

I get why they did it in 2020. Doing it ever since then is simply out of cost-cutting network greed.

It's definitely a factor from what JP said, though I think the convenience of fans being able to drive home to corners of the state after the game is also a factor.

When there's zero TV factor in picking a game time, and the coaches don't have a preference (I don't know whether they do or not, but assuming this), this is as valid of a reason as any.

Think most coaches usually prefer playing earlier in the day. They don't like sitting in the hotel all day waiting for the game.

Shawn Kenney is really solid. Lives, or at least lived, in Perry.

Does college wrestling and the FCS Playoffs for ESPN as well as other stuff for ESPN+. You'll enjoy him.

Another vote for this. Shawn is really good. I knew him years ago. I believe he still lives in Perry and when I knew him he said his broadcasting icon is Pete Taylor, so that instantly puts him up there for me.

It's been happening in some form since at least the 16-17 basketball season (for Big 12/ISU, anyway).

Basketball remote is the WORST. The energy in the arena doesn't translate at all and it just feels so disconnected.

Campbell has said this.
Also, keep in mind that playing himself at the Div III level there weren't many TV concerns so they got to set their game times as they saw fit. Early afternoon games are pretty common at that level. There is probably a pretty big comfort level to go back to what was an era of almost total success for him.
