Just an example:

The amount of money collectives are investing in quarterback recruiting these days leaves some staffers wondering whether quarterbacks looking at mid- to late-round draft grades would be wiser to enter the portal and spend an extra year in college than enter the draft. Sam Howell got a $361,000 signing bonus as an early fifth-round pick this year. Brock Purdy, the last pick in the draft, got just $77,000 guaranteed. The sums some collectives are allegedly offering would surely far exceed that.

Regarding the NIL stuff. I remember during the offseason that Bryce Young was going to make more money from his NIL deal than what Jalen Hurts would as QB for the Eagles.

Granted that doesn't include any endorsement money Jalen gets, but still.

Certainly possible. However, I'd say NIL money isn't guaranteed, so it's not fair to compare to what those guys got in only guaranteed money. Purdy is getting like $900k+ this year with the 49ers.

Should compare the non-guaranteed NIL offer to the non-guaranteed NFL contract amount.

I know very few people wealthy enough to be major NIL donors, but among that small group, some of them are definitely the "got my money from Dad's business, never held down a real job, drive nice cars, talk about all the rich people I know, but still live paycheck to paycheck" type.

Basically the exact kind of person you'd expect to talk a big game during the recruiting process, then completely flake out when it comes time to write the check. Maybe that's what happened here.

Somehow pro sports make it work without jealousy becoming a huge locker room issue (maybe I'm wrong about that and just don't hear the stories?) College aged kids aren't as mature though, so not surprising it would be a bigger issue there.
Pro players get that it is a job and everybody gets paid. Nfl especially gets that every team needs to make money so the whole league is strong. Colleges dont get it. There all for themselves. Only conference that is together is sec. College kids see it.

I'm guessing Fran's tweet and this transfer news coming at near the same time is not a coincidence.

My guess is it went down something like this. Player is injured and is being cautious in coming back. Adams, perhaps at the request of the booster(s) who put up the NIL money, kindly reminded him that he's being paid alot of money to play basketball games. Player doesn't like that, realizes they'd have no recourse to recover their money and says screw it I'm out.

This is why I've always thought the NIL market would regulate itself over time. While big time boosters aren't afraid to throw around money, they also, I'm sure, don't like getting nothing for their investment. Stories like this, or DJ Uiagalelia, will have to start tempering the amounts getting throw around, you'd think.

Was that the kid from LSU that quit after getting the check?

as
Adams might turn into their own version of Steve Prohm if this keeps up.
It is never fun to be the man who replaced 'the Man'. Beard brought Tech out of an almost decade long slump of being one of, if not worst programs in the conference. Similar to what Hoiberg did, but with even more success.

I think Shannon and McCullar transferring was a warning sign that there was some deep trouble there.

Totally agree, and when you throw in the fact that their best player from last year, Bryson Williams, graduated, it is a very poor man's version of last years team.

Tre King had to sit out for 2 years but this ******* gets to play right away at a new school because he didn't get paid enough? What a joke.
GREAT POINT!!!
How in the hell is this a thing?
NCAA transfer rules are just a figment of our imagination, ever-changing and always nonsensical.
I’ll believe it when it happens. I don’t know how, having just entered the portal, a player could possibly know that. New school could try a waiver, but I’d be pretty surprised if he sees the court before next December.
We will all be waiting with bated breath on the commissar's new whimsical ruling. Can't wait.
