The pain of a defeat can often inspire great competitors to dig a little deeper and work a little harder to do what ever they can to avoid that feeling in the future. I know the coaches will somehow use this loss to motivate the players and them selves in the future. It may sound corny but it is very true.

The big thing I see is that our team is very young at many spots. Gives me hope.

A chance to get a competent OC.
I think we will find out that Herman will thrive at OSU with great receivers to create big plays out of routine plays. I do think that Herman lacks the flexibility to be successful at a school like ISU.

Positives?

We might be able to do this again next year, and there are some decent young players on the team.

Then again, I could've said this before the loss today so... yeah. So much for that.

Edit: Oh, and I can look forward to being mad at a different OC either justifiably for terrible playcalling or unjustifiably when our QB sucks.

Well, considering Urban likely will be telling Herman what to do, I would be surprised if Herman managed to mess that up.

However, if he were to truly be the OC and bring his offense/call the plays, I think he would do alright. Herman's offense needs to have better athletes than the defense.

The defense. They played pretty solid and were counted on so many times. I wasn't even really upset with Reeves on the coverage at the end. He was there and in position but the Rutgers QB placed the ball perfectly and there is not much you can do when the WR has an 11 inch height advantage. Also the special teams played good (Kicking game not included).

We SEEM to be winning the right way - with quality individuals and true student/athletes. If we find an above average QB - just someone who would rank in the top half of the B12 - then we win this game tonight. We are collecting enough competent pieces that 1 good trigger-man could make things click a bit.

Future still bright and I can't wait for the final weeks of recruiting season than spring ball so we can start annointing the next all-american spring game player who will no doubt disappoint us yet again.

Another way to say it is he has a system but if he doesn't have the right players it doesn't work = can't coach.
