I don't think Five Guys is fast food, it falls in to the fast causal. When I think of Fast Food, i think more of McDonalds. It takes a while to actually get your food at Five Guys.

So the worst of both worlds? Sounds great!

Isn't Blum a big Five Guys guy? As far as my opinion there isn't much difference between this and Smashburger and they are both good. Also, did the OP really complain about getting too many fries?

I was wondering the same thing. There isn't a potato blight going on right now is there?

This is one thing I'll never understand about this board.

I don't get this either. B-Bops is fine for what it is, but it is definitely not in the high end burger category.

5 Guys is good, but I do think it is a bit overrated. Still will eat there as an option.

Wow, lots of Smashburger love. I have a Smashburger and a Five Guys across the street from the office, both have been here for several years. I know a lot of Five Guys fans around here, I don't know anyone that is too wild about Smashburger. Five Guys will be the best fast casual/fast food burger option in DSM the day it opens.

And if anybody else wants to complain about getting too many fries with your order, please go ahead and do it now so I can just add all of you to my ignore list in a single shot. Who the hell complains about getting too much food for your money?

I would like it more if there weren't peanuts everywhere. I have a pretty severe allergy.

Food's good, but the 2 or 3 times I've been there I was just on edge worrying.

That said, WDSM definitely needed another chain restaurant

And to think we used to be e-friends.

B-Bops is the best burger for the price in Des Moines.
Dang how much I miss those B-Bops Ames coupons when I was in school a few years ago. They had it that you could get 2 quarter pound burgers and 2 large fries for $4.25. Best deal around. It slowly crept up over time and now I'm sure that same combo is at least $6.

IMO, the most underrated greasy burger place is Culvers. The others are all good but I just love that place for some reason. Of course, it's almost as hard to come by for me as the others so the novelty isn't gone.

Of three like places close to my office Meatheads gets mine and my co-workers vote, over five guys and smashburger. Smashburger closed, so I guess Five Guys wins that argument, but smashburger was better than five guys in my opinion.

Des Moines could use about 4 strategically located Steak n Shakes. That would help you guys out a ton. Nothing wrong with a $4 double with fries and a shake.

Culver's burgers are pretty good but I actually like there food that is not burgers better. Also, their fries leave something to be desired.

Chris Williams is a hack apparently.

I'm thinking CW is a shill . . . B-Bops must be a sponsor of his radio show . . . and Five Guys must be coming to a location that will compete with some other sponsor. There is no other reasonable explanation for his ranking of burger places.

Seriously, just as a burger, Five Guys is so much better than B-Bops. Five Guys is no bargain, so it may not be a good value, but it is a much better burger.

And "too many fries!" Now I've heard it all. That is like having too many home football games (with wins).

Five Guys doesn't try to compete with the big fast food joints on price, but they are also offering a higher quality product. I can get a burger, fries, and drink and leave the place stuffed for under $10. It is hardly expensive.
