Florida Keys

Lots of live music on Duvall St along with plenty of tasty beverages.

We really liked the vibe of the Chart Room (Buffet frequented it early in his career and played for drinks).

Plenty of great places to eat…..especially seafood.

I would say our favorite place to eat (with the best food) was the Conch Republic, although most places other places were pretty good too.

Watch the sunset from Mallory Square. Get there fairly early as it can get crowded.

Depending on traffic (ahead of weekends and holidays) the drive down from MIA can take awhile but is worth it - plan on taking longer and explore some of the offshoots and activities along the way. Helps break it up.

Don’t know what airline you are flying into MIA, or if you have been through there before. What I will say is that it is, quite possibly, one of the worst (if not the worst) airports to fly into (out of isn’t much better). Multiple levels, going up and down, things aren’t well marked, and the American Airlines app was mostly useless. It was a minor miracle and mostly blind luck that we got our bags. This after walking about a mile to get there to begin with.

Good luck and enjoy!
Miami airport is the worst, have flown through there a couple of times, and its a complete mess, Denver, Atlanta and O'Hare are a piece of cake compared to the beast in Miami.

The drive down the Keys is lovely, but it's gotten more and more convenient and affordable to fly directly into EYW. They recently just built a brand new terminal which is really nice as well, although getting off the plane and walking across the tarmac was such cool "welcome to the island".

Going for a week. Staying in Key West. Have a couple of unplanned days. Any great experiences you would be willing to share?
Dry Tortugas is awesome, do it. Feeding sharks was fun. We stayed at the Truman Hotel it was awesome. We flew to Miami and rented a car, drove to Key West. Sober, we rented a jeep, I threw my own jeep keys into the rental return key box. The next day was Sunday. The car rental places share employees that day and may not know what is going on. I sat ant the airport for over three hours and some one said tome "are these your keys?" We had chicken wings at a bar that were huge. We have friends that do charter fishing and love it. (my wife won't eat anything that swims) A week if you are willing to walk or rent transportation you will have a blast. Viva Argentinian Steakhouse was our favorite place to eat relax. But it was close to Truman.

It is equally sucky to drive into. I drove someone there to drop off for a flight. There are approximately 284 airlines and they all have a tiny sign at their drop off area and you WILL miss it the first time around. I managed to cut in illegally and drop but swore I'd never do a Miami run again. PBI, FLL and MCO are nothing compared to that mess.

I always enjoyed The Stoned Crab, if you like sea food on the water. Sitting on the patio next to the sea is one of my favorite leisures in South Florida.
