Campbell has publicly said that he plays players that practice well and also one's that he can trust. You would think that there is a lot of ground to be made to get Campbell to get them into playing snaps in meaningful games.
Scates won't be. He is a receiver. He has speed and it's not like they quit working out. Pretty sure the ones with talent will be able to step in pretty quick. Although we will probably play them all 4 games and then redshirt them. That would be my guess.

I thought the press release said they were banned from all football facilties? Does that mean they were working out at the Lied Rec?

I think that's optimistic... Unless the suspension really planted some urgency and responsibility into them..

Didn’t CMC say they’ve been back for a couple weeks? If so, I could see a WR like Scates get some snaps in the next few weeks if he’s as athletic as hyped.

Could be, especially since he'll be able to play 4 games without losing a Red Shirt.

Scates has the potential to be the replacement for Butler in the near future and getting him some reps this year can only help his case.

Overall though good to see all four freshman atoned for their bad judgement and are back with the team. That could have went a lot of different directions for each.

I think your replacement for Butler would more likely be 6-6 Sean Shaw. Campbell had good things to say about him and two other receivers when asked about any tall receivers who are redshirting during the coaches call-in show. The other two he mentioned were Scates and Tory Spears, a 6-3 walkon, who Campbell said was a highlight. Walters mentioned that he had won scout team player of the week twice now. Scates, in my mind, would be a replacement for Eaton.

That would depend on just how long they were out of all team activities. Somehow, I suspect that wasn’t “until WVU”, that just happened to be the first time they were on the sidelines.

Six weeks of no team activities would be incredibly harsh.

I think the tweet said that they are now practicing with the team, which implies to me that they haven't been.

Maybe they’ve been watching?

They’ve been back for awhile,” Campbell said. “Kind of went through the protocol of what needed to happen and those guys have been at least back on the practice field in some limited margin, but back on the practice field, earned the right to be back on the practice field a couple weeks ago.”

Aren't all 4 of these guys players that, if not for the suspensions, we thought maybe they would have a chance to play this year? I mean, there are always freshman that you pretty much know will redshirt. But before they got into trouble, I remember these guys all being hyped as really good players.

Kind of scary to think as well as the team is doing the last couple games, here are four more players that can really contribute in the future. The quality of our depth is getting to be really impressive I think.

It's probably a good thing these kids screwed up when they did. Now they know they are on thin ice and can't mess up again. Hopefully all four of them have learned from their mistakes and focus on school and football. I'm sure being on the sideline for the first time, especially in a big upset game, was a cool experience for them.

I would be surprised if any of them see the field this year. Just a gut feeling with Campbell, and how much he places trust in level of importance.

Isn't Scates the highest rated recruit under Matt Campbell? Not that it means he should play if he isn't ready but I'd like to see the potential.

You do realize these kids were carrying guns and it could have got them killed by a cop. I would have been okay with no team activities for 6 months. The handgun they were carrying look very real!

For the love of god. They were not guns. They were BB guns. Agreed it's a mistake but let's not get wayyyy out over our skis.

I guess they might have shot their eyes out.
