Shouldve have waited for the T-wolves IMO. Ride out the senior class this season, you knew Flip was on his way out (no better way to say that, apologies), then step into a team with a nice young roster with a fanbase that is much more lenient.
Zero idea why he bailed for the bulls unless he burned some bridges at the T-wolves.

Hell, I think that the only reason that Flip was still the coach was because Fred hadn't said yes to them yet.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I think we all understand with Fred's heart condition his window to coach is much smaller than many others. He wanted to get to the NBA and try and win a championship before doctors told him he needs to hang it up. I can't fault a guy for that, and even if he is making more money this year than I will ever see in my life, I do feel a little bad for him. He is the Mayor for Pete's sakes.

No one denies that Thibs was a good coach but it's easier to squeeze blood out of a turnip when all you have are turnips.

Fred is not the kind of coach to squeeze. He gives the floor plan and let's the players grow under the floor plan. If all you have is turnips then they'll just grow into turnips. But incredible juicy turnips.
Coaches have to coach the rosters they're given, and Thibs routinely showed an ability to adapt to tough situations. D. Rose played in fewer than 50 games over three seasons (11/12, 12/13, 13/14), during what should have been the prime of career.

Some might find the comparison to Thibs unfair, but we are talking about the guy who was fired to make room for Hoiberg. Thibs would coach circles around Hoiberg if handed the same roster and injury issues.

I don't get why some fans are hostile towards Hoiberg. He chased his dreams. He is struggling. As Iowa State fans, I don't think we need to kick him while he is down. I still hope he has a great NBA career.

I don't think anyone his hostile towards him. Most just aren't crying for him.

Another thing to remember, those guys loved Thibs. They didn't want him fired. So Fred is also battling that. That is something that is hard to overcome.

The injuries have definitely hurt Holberg and that is completely out of his control. But I also see a lot of people talking about how Holberg doesn't have the guys fit for his system. That kind of contradicts what GarPax said when he was hired about how they need to fire Thibs and hire Holberg in order to get to the "next level".

I look at in the total opposite direction. The high stress, negative, high travel environment that Fred is now in is not doing his heart condition any good. Strictly from a medical perspective, he was much better off with his job in Ames.

Just to be the dumb guy here, has anyone factored in that the long grind of the NBA season is about 2.5 college seasons? That's another way or two to account for extra technical fouls.

It also accounts for the additional pay, or at least should be factored in. I mean, we could have paid him $2 million per year easy (I can't remember what we were paying him), and that would come out nearly equivalent when you consider the amount of additional time and travel he has to spend with his current team compared to here. Not only that, but much less stress.

Not exactly sure.

His new.contract.with us was to be $25 MM over 10. So the bulls basically gave him the same but put the time in half.

I really don't understand some chicago fans' obsession with Joakim Noah. He may have been a great defensive player for you for a couple years, but what I saw of him this year before his injury was beyond horrible.

I always wondered if he saw Hoiberg's tweet from a couple of years ago with a photo of his ugly shot warning kids not to look lol.
