fun thread....

I have some loyalties, starting with...

Amazon - rules in a rural area.....allows me to rarely frequent local wal marts and the like.
Toyota Camry - boring *** car, but reliable and easy to repair.
Ford F150 - just solid old truck.....been good to me.
Carhartt coats - tough as nails
Honda dirt bikes and quads - hard to beat reliability wise
Samsung electronics - had great luck with their tvs and phones. Have a S6 right now
Klipsch speakers - have some old made in America klipschhorns and other speakers. Good earbuds too

I guess I avoid GM, Apple, and some other brands.

I don’t consider myself loyal by design, so even if I find a reliable brand for this or that, I’ll stray outside of it depending on situation.

Here are some brands I’ve stuck with the longest:

Jeans: Levi’s
Deodorant: Mennen Speed-Stick. (By … Mennen!)
Computer: Mac
Knock-around tennis shoes: Converse, black low-tops
Guitar, electric: Gibson/Epiphone (I do have a Fender acoustic, though)
Non-high-end beer: Budweiser

Grocery-wise, I use generic/store brand in quite a few categories — it depends on how well they mimic the Real Product vs. cost-savings. At one end of the spectrum, generic snack-chips are underrated. At the other, I won’t touch fake Oreos.

Camel Lights, Diet Pepsi, Cap'n Crunch, Bic Lighters, Skippy Natural Peanut Butter w/honey, AE for anything Dairy, and pretty much anything Google.

Thought of another one. Glad Force-Flex 33 Gallon trash bags for the big garage trash liner. I usually buy whatever's cheapest for the tall kitchen ones inside, but only the Force Flex for the garage.

I also long ago switched from the powdered cheese Mac 'n Cheese mix to the one with the squeeze pouch. Much superior.

Back when I did buy the powdered stuff I often wondered why the directions on the Mac 'n Cheese box call for 3 times the milk that is optimal?

Ive always worn carhartt as work coats but lately ive been rethinking. I throw my now 2 year old coat in the wash everytime I have a short load, its been washed proably 40 times by now and is still stiff as a board. We need some middle ground between tough and made of wood.

Kind of unrelated but I will never even remotely consider getting Progressive for insurance based solely on that annonying-as-**** Flo in their ads

I work it backwards, I am not terribly loyal to any brands but there are a few I won't touch no matter what:

1) Chevy
2) Arbys
3) UofI
4) Apple
5) Nike shoes (too narrow)
6) MSNBC

Patagonia -- jackets, pants, shells, liners for skiing, boarding, general living in the mountains. A little pricy at retail but they last forever and have a great return policy, and I get a pretty good discount on most items.

Apple -- owner of an iPhone (2nd one), iMac, an old Macbook that lasted 8 years and still works but not great, and will be getting either a Pro, Air, or iPad when I go back to grad school in the fall. Also picking up Apple TV in the fall.

Sock Guy bike socks and Smartwool ski socks -- I've tried a lot of brands and these are the longest lasting and most comfortable for me

Salomon Trail Runners -- Granted, I don't run unless I'm being chased, but these are my daily driver shoes 95% of the time. I used to be Nike exclusive (b/c my old job supplied them) but I find my Salomon's so much more supportive and longer lasting. Still Nike when I need to replace cleats.

Smith Optics -- helmets and eyewear (goggles & sunglasses)

Tillamook Cheese

Tillamook Ice Cream or Dreyer's Ice Cream

Target over Wal-Mart unless it's in an absolute pinch. For me, Target is 2 hours away and Walmart is 35 minutes but I usually end up in the town that has Target once every month or two so it works out. I do a ton of online ordering (not just from these two stores)

REI over Backcountry.com -- I get a dividend at REI (plus an extra 5% if I use my REI credit card), it's nice to have actual stores to visit and see things in person, and their prices are typically equal before I factor in the 10% dividend (+5 sometimes) I'd get back at REI.

Those are a few off the top of my head. I'm generally not opposed to store-brand food items.

My dad's cars have all been Chevy as long as I can remember but I think that's just coincidence. My stepdad's trucks have all been Ford and that is by choice out of diehard loyalty. My mom doesn't give two hoots and buys based on price, ratings, and comfort. Personally, I've had a 2001 Chrysler and now a 1999 Ford pickup. Both were/are great.

There aren't too many items I can think of that I always buy the same brand regardless other than the ones I list below. For the most part with every day items I'm more of a value shopper than a brand name shopper/

Vehicles: Anything made by GM, usually a Chevy. My grandfather worked for GM so not only is there some family loyalty there but his GM employee discount is valid all the way down to grandchildren so it is so much affordable and less stressful to walk into a GM dealer, give them my authorization code and not have to haggle over the new vehicle price.

Shoes: Nike for tennis shoes. Dress shoes I don't really care what brand as long as they fit and look good but with my athletic type shoes Nikes always seem to fit the best and last the longest for me.

Home computer: Dell. on my 3rd or 4th Dell now I think and I know some people think they are junk but every one I have owned has lasted a long time for me and never had a major issue with. Can usually find the best deals with them too if you do your research.

I guess as far as services go I've been pretty loyal to Verizon, Dish Network and Century Link (formerly Qwest) and prefer to get my groceries at Hy-Vee since I used to work and intern for them but I still shop Fareway some just a few blocks away from my house and some dry goods type stuff from Wal-Mart when its convenient.

I was going to post this earlier. Best trash bags.
