Thanks to @SCNCY for this one! We accidentally scheduled our wedding on opener weekend before schedules came out…

What are embarrassing/stupid/silly reasons you have missed an Iowa State game (any sport)? We've heard of wedding stories, so try and exclude those.

Some college buddies of mine and I for years would participate in a "Canadian Triathlon" in Fargo, ND (Curling, Bowling, and Darts). It always seemed to fall on KU @ ISU Saturday in January. First time we didn't realize it was that weekend but we had so much fun we decided to keep going even on ISU home game Saturdays.

Thanks Angie!

For me, I am missing this weekends opening football game of the season to take my sister in law and niece, who are visiting us for 10 days in New Jersey, to drive to Rhode Island in order to experience the exciting action of England and the USA battling it out on the pitch in the exciting and thrilling posh sport of... Polo.

Gates open at noon, but my wife wants to get their at 1:00 pm so we can get a good spot on the lawn (it's open seating), for a game that starts at 4:00 pm.

Missed one of the best actual ISU/IA games for even casual fans to watch in 2011 due to a bachelor party.

Missed last year to go to a WI game that happened at the same time. Checked in online to watch a bit and didn't need to watch more to know ISU was right on schedule.

Eons ago I went with my brother, his wife and my wife to the UNI game. It was probably 1987. My brother drove us all. We were watching the game and at the start of the 4th quarter Iowa State is getting beat and isn't showing any signs of life. Both wives are griping and want to leave. So it is decided we are going to leave. We start to leave the stadium and brother says that he has to go to the bathroom so he will meet us at the car. The three of us left the stadium and we no more than get out of the gates and huge roar goes up from the stadium. Obviously Iowa State has done something. We got to the car and waited...no brother. Another roar from the crowd. We wait somemore not able to even get in the car and listen to the radio. More roars from the stadium until the game is over. Brother finally shows up and tells us that after going to the bathroom Iowa State scored so he went back in to watch Iowa State stage a huge comeback. I was so mad at him because I didn't want to leave early to begin with but I was stuck out there not even able to listen on the radio.

I vowed to never, ever leave a game early again.

You, two ladies, in a car, in a parking lot…….you couldn’t find something else to do?

I missed a non con in McCarney era, I think maybe UNLV? Still in hospital with new baby. Let husband go to game. A friend came to hospital and we listened to game on the radio.

Missed a UNI game in McCarney era when one of kids had to be hospitalized with strep.

So hospital both times.

You missed that we couldn't even get in the car...

And we weren't in a parking lot. Back in those days they allowed parking along Elwood, Beach and S. 16th on game days. We were parked along S. 16th.

The Nebraska 1992 upset with marvelous Marvin Seiler...

Buddy's dad came down and bought tix and offered to us roommates. I said no, didn't want to watch a 70 point beatdown. Went to Marston, did some programming on the old Vax machines for some class or another. Took my radio & headphones but couldn't get reception up there for some reason - probably massive amounts of radiation from the Vax machines lol.

I got back to the house and wouldn't believe them that we had won until the dad confirmed it. Even then, I thought it might be a put on, but then there it was on WOI news.

So yeah, missed out on that one...

I left prior to the comeback we had a few years ago at home vs KSU. I like to think that my leaving early led to the comeback since the jinx aka me left the game.

Got invited to a box ticket for the Iowa State - Oklahoma State 2011 game while I was in college in Pella. Decided to skip it because of a party I was excited about. Biggest regret I have. Let's just say I was crying in the hallway because I missed the biggest cyclone game ever.

I decided to stay home and make 12 batches of chex mix, so I missed the November 18th, 2011 game in person.

I’m missing tomorrow’s game due to taking the family to a D3 football game in Wisconsin where my wife’s cousin is on the team, but likely won’t even play. So instead of watching the Cyclones, I’ll be at a game neither my wife or I truly care about while also trying to figure out what to do with our one year old who is skipping his nap to go to this thing as well. The things you do for family(even in-laws) I guess.

Missed the 2011? Okie State upset. Was driving to game and my son threw up on the way. He was in kindergarten and was exhausted from school since it was a Friday night game. Turned around and took him home thinking the game would be a blowout so wouldn’t miss much.

Where they love the governor
When I lived in Houston, my college roommate (who also happened to love in Houston at the time) was offered free tickets in the company suite for the 2010 game against UT. We had just gotten blown out by OU 52-0, and we would have been the only ISU fans in the box, so we elected to just go to a sports bar in Rice Village instead.

Missed a great win, but had the whole bar cheering for us.
