London Underground is a regular stop on our annual bar hop on bikes. They have very knowledgeable bartenders and great drinks.

Was: Lumpy's and People's. Lumpy's was an unrepentent **** hole dive at a period in time when that's what I wanted from a bar. People's always had great live music, and just an awesome vibe all around. I loved their Monday Night Football specials. $.25 wings and $3 pitchers. Plus, when you walked in you would pick one of the teams, and whenever that team scored you'd get a free shot. For $10 you could get full of wings and drunk AF.

Currently: Welch Ave Station. It's the perfect college sports bar. It's aesthetic has been unchanged in years. Their drinks are truly in-house concoctions (but not pretentious). The beer selection is excellent. Inferno Wings are my ultimate comfort food. All the ISU and Big 8/12 memorabilia strategically placed. Brooke Burke. It is absolutely iconic, and no trip to Ames is complete without paying homage and having a Bloody (my wife got the recipe from the bartender once and we make them at home sometimes).

Both: Thumbs. Loved it when I lived a block away. Love it now. Classic college town dive bar.

In school we'd go the Cy's, Welch, People's, Tazzels. Hunky Dory's was a fun spot too, but not very convenient

In 2000, Dean’s List had silver night and that was probably my favorite. And Sips when you wanted to dance.

Was-Capone's (RIP) countless times of playing pool in the back and singing karaoke on stage in my college years. Followed closely by Paddy's (don't go now far to old to fit in).
Is - A tie between Welch Ave and Thumbs. Both hit that nostalgia for me, and I don't feel to old being in there. Welch Ave is a great place to watch a game, have some great drinks, and pay homage to Brooke Burke. Thumbs for what others have mentioned, the perfect college town dive bar.

Was - Mickey's. $1 Captains on Wednesdays was my go-to. Fishbowls on Thursdays were a close second.

Is - The only answer is Welch Ave. I spent 2 years in Ames after graduation and spent more time at WAS than I care to admit. Now I want Pizza Pit.

Spent way too much time at Tazzles, having a blast when they briefly had NBA JAM there. Fave nite though was at Peoples watching Black Uhuru, an authentic reggae band from Jamaica. I had stumbled on their albums prior to this and had been listening for a few years. The audience was super sparse so I was requesting most of the setlist all night and hanging with them on breaks

Downtown - London Underground, Olde Main ($1 pint nights only), and DG's Taphouse.

I think a big thread for this, but I'll just say I missed in my era, Lumpys and old Es Tas.

Es Tas was great when it moved too! Even it was great for bladder busters that banned, grrr.

But liked going the old one. It's small, old, and crappy. It was like a club member. I had 'friends' that I only knew their in old es tad, we chat, have a good time, and never saw them again.

And I think this would be a fun idea for OT Friday: Friend circles in college. I had friend circles who for different bars. I also had a friend circle for Ames in the summer. That could be another thread, Ames was the best in the summertime when most the students were gone.

Edit: Google Contacts i always saved numbers, like 'Guy Spanish 102 in Summer'. We had a good time in the summers, and have no clue his name. Just try summer for language class for requirements, go to the bars, could find a place to sleep.
