“The Big 12 exists because we've got Texas and Oklahoma in the room. If we take Texas and Oklahoma out of the room, we're the Mountain West Conference and we're going to get $3 million.”Oct 18, 2016
5 years ago and today are light years apart. The entire context of media negotiations is different. I'll bet the house he wouldn't say that today regardless of our situation.

Good point. It is $28 million in tv revenue which $14 million was Texas/Oklahoma. I guess the $9 million more we get ($37 million total) is from bowl bids, basketball, championship game. All of the latest will go down. But with ESPN's hypothetical deal, it would be a bump from $14 million to $32 million. Say they offer $50 million instead? The point is whether there would be a number we would accept right now.

Absolutely there is. Assuming no one has an inside track to B1G membership, any deal that would fairly value our content and keep revenue at current levels or above would be acceptable. At those levels we can maintain what we have and continue to grow. One nice thing about how big the checks are getting is that as the money increases, there is a diminishing return. You can only spend so much on facilities for FB & BB. For those schools that are in the $150M+ range, most of the money gets diverted to non-revenue sports and the academic side of the university. $35-$40M from a conference is more than enough to support winning FB and BB.

I'm not worried about P5 status. We've got some damn good football programs in the conference. TCU has spent a lot of the last decade in the top 10 and OSU is no stranger either.

Bad thing is that Pac and B1G are up around the same time. So it'll be interesting on who bids. Im sure Fox will continue to do partial contracts but who else steps up.

Duh!
I'm thinking Fox and CBS might be coming hard for more live sports inventory which should help increase the media rights for conferences. CBS just signed up the Mountain West as a deal. Maybe they'd sweeten the pot for the Big 12 if there were a certain amount of games scheduled between the two conferences. Maybe a 2 for 1 deal in scheduling home games. Networks can be pretty creative if they want.
Just understand that they won’t televise all the MW games. It‘s a major concern if we end up with a media partner(s) that doesn’t guarantee all of our games being televised.

Not exactly sure.
The other reason that time is helpful to ISU, is that with a hot football team and hopefully a basketball team rebounding, we could honestly see a $10 MM increase in our donations and tickets. That would leapfrog us over several teams and draw us closer to KU.

I’m concerned that P5 status is merely a media designation. Even if the conference remains in the Autonomy 5 that gain the most money from the playoff, the narrative on the coasts might be that we’re a G5 conference in all but name. That affects recruiting and donations and ultimately it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I really like the "Hateful Eight"!

It's got a nice ring to it, and is a very succinct way of getting the message across.

We can do just what they did. Start out kinda small, grow exponentially as our product got more respect and notoriety, then blindside 'em and bury the bastards!!!!!!!!!!

Eventually, we could put one of the originals as the lead institution in each of the new conferences we form and drum the SEC back to "regular guy" status. What kind of national championship comes from just one conference, (and probably ND), anyway?

Almost everything starts out small, it's just that the inspired and innovative ones just aren't satisfied to stay that way...
I like the Hateful 8 as well. I almost want to start a new thread poll but there’s so many already I think people would get pissed off.

What should we call ourselves after the divorce?

Hateful Eight
Orphaned Eight
Orgasmic Eight
Matty White and the 7 Dwarfs
Other

Lol someone feel free to steal that and start one if they want to.

I’m a H8ful Eight proponent myself. Just kidding, that looks awful as I type it. Hateful Eight then.

What I hate about this uneducated opinion piece is their total disregard for ISU. When they talk about potential teams to the big10, we are not even mentioned, but KSU is.
That is the problem with a lot of these articles that tell us where teams could end, they are just looking at it from a sports perceptive and not the whole university and geographic sense. The Big 10 has said over and over "we are only looking at AAU schools, period." It was reported that when OU/UT talked to the league they were told that they would take UT, but not OU because of they are not an AAU school.

But you have people saying that WV, KSU or OSU would fit nicely into the Big 10, even though none of them are AAU schools. Academics do matter for some conferences, just like small religious schools matter to the Pac 12. Now things can and do change, but until they do, I will have to see it to believe it. But then I never thought in a million years that UT would go to the SEC and that is where they are going.

Apparently Barstool Sports is in talks to broadcast “one of the major sports”.

Them streaming sports could definitely help peak the big boy streamers interest.

Match the SEC per team number.
