It is only a concern of states if the student-athletes are breaking any legalities. Gambling is legal at 18 in many of the states. If what has been rumored is correct (underage betting, using another's ID) those would not have happened if gambling was legal at 18 in Iowa.

With that being said, yes, many student athletes are illegally gambling per the NCAA while being legal gamblers through their states.
College athletes sports betting is illegal no matter the age, at least in Iowa but probably everywhere too.

Via the Athletic Department or a LEA?

Who ever wants to report 1st could very well do so now.. Very weird situation as to why/how this is playing out (I don’t know why media outlets are waiting)… I’m sure articles are typed… and they are just waiting on publication. All I know is that if I’d work for a local media outlet.. I’d just break the story and worry about the AD/credentials later.

It's because on the 1% chance they're wrong about this, it's a horrible look since you're reporting big news on specific individuals. No one wants to put themselves out there like that without any direct source.

They have the info with a direct source.

So is this a dismissal thing then? I know some kids at a patriot league school who got kicked out of school for it but not sure if that's an ncaa thing or an honor code at the school thing.

I would guess ISU would have to break the story because in some cases the only rules being broken are NCAA rules and not state of Iowa or Federal.

So the question is- has the NCAA determined punishments for the athletes and if not when? IMO that's when the story will break- all at once.

I've been following this on this thread, so certainly understand how some is speculation, etc....but i too am shocked it's not been "broke" thus far or at least talked about more.....even Tommy Birch...he keeps doing that story on soccer, you'd think he'd be more than happy to do something with this story. Or even some of the other random questions that Randy P. would ask, you'd think there would be more bubbling more publicly. Unless, of course, there is the fear of credential access, etc.

It'll also be interesting to listen to media outlets after info is share (if it is indeed shared with details). I know CW has talked about it on his various pods (but again, more of just "what if" type of stuff and also bigger picture discussions on the rules, legal gambling now, etc.). Of course he and Blum can't share if they know stuff, but i just can't imagine the don't given the ties to the program.

It's probably not wise for him to piss of the Athletic Department anymore.
