An OWI and an OWI which leads to vehicular manslaughter are two different things and warrant two different punishments imo.

Texting while driving is illegal and can lead to vehicular manslaughter. Should an athlete caught texting while driving get kicked off the team?
OWI- Aggravated Misdemeanor
Use of electronic communication device while driving- Simple Misdemeanor

I don't really think this proves the thing you think it does. I say that as someone who drinks more than most.
Only thing I'm getting at is it doesn't take much to get to .08 lol.

People probably reach that limit or more, without even knowing it/feeling it

A big fat ZERO. Project much do you? A dwi shouldn't be taken lightly but it shouldn't end someone's athletic career or job unless you were busted in a semi or are a law enforcement official.
There are a lot of jobs if they require travel or driving it absolutely does end their career.

Edit: I also understand none of those apply to athletes

The idea that all OWI is the same is ridiculous.

If someone gets pulled over for a burned out taillight and blows a .1, I wouldn’t want them kicked off. If they crash into a light pole at .2? Yeah, you can boot that guy.

"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that driving while texting is six times more dangerous than driving drunk. Reading or sending a text takes your eyes off the road for about five seconds."

And I see a metric ton of people with their phones in front of their faces, or their faces looking down at their laps, every single day. Texting, watching videos, whatever. WAY more than drunks on a daily basis.

I am not suggesting drunk driving is OK - it's not at all. But the distracted driving thing has got to be stopped. I saw a guy in traffic about a month ago, watching porn on his phone on his morning commute. Phone held way up, eye-high above the steering wheel.

Sorry to contribute to thread derailment...

In urban areas maybe.

Even in urban areas its gone to **** the last couple years. Last time i needed an uber i couldn't get any drivers and had to make alternative arrangements, and just a couple weeks ago i picked up a friend who had first tried to get an uber during the middle of the day (not drinking, just needed a ride)
